I'm just a hillbilly from West Virginia, but I know that you wear black to a funeral. It's almost as if he didn't care. /sarcasm.

I was referencing the official (and only partial) acceptance of Marion sacramentals.

There is a Cardinal (Hungarian) who is Marion and in contention for Pope, from what I've read. Unfortunately, he seems to be an extremist conservative (and in my mind, an a-hole). So clearly, adoption of Mary does not always transfer to a more accepting philosophy:

Cardinal Peter Erdo:

Erdo, 72, is a former President of the Council of Bishops Conferences of Europe - a group of 33 leading Bishops from the continent.

The Hungarian is a devout Marian, which means he directs his religious practices towards Mary, mother of Jesus.

He is known for being a Conservative voice within the Church, and is against divorced or remarried Catholics partaking in Holy Communion. He has made some controversial claims in his time, including likening taking in refugees to human trafficking.

The distinguished cardinal is fluent in Hungarian, English, Italian, French and Latin.Erdo, 72, is a former President of the Council of Bishops Conferences of Europe - a group of 33 leading Bishops from the continent.

Biden is sitting 4 rows behind Trump. Doesn't exactly stand out as "blue" to me. A lot of photos here:
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c5y6rg6wpvgo

Down the page a ways, it shows the Bidens up close. His suit does NOT look blue to me - unless it is a very deep blue-black. In comparison to Trump it certainly is not as bright. So for anyone who thinks this is an issue at all, it's really not a both-sides thing.

Also note the many others wearing not-black garb.

Local customs often do not mirror international norms.
Navy blue is acceptable as a color worn to funerals.

Women did not were veils when I was attending Catholic church.
But I was either going to mass in farm country or on military bases.
These kind of women did not have the income or inclination for
for fanciful attire.

I also think given the Pope's devotion to the Blessed Mother, blue is a good color
to wear to the funeral. I would have worn blue to honor her and the Pope's love for her.

We did all the usual practices, Sunday mass, celebrating the holidays, not eating meat on Fridays.
Identified as Catholic of course. Had priests and nuns in the family.

But no one talked about religion. Even the family priests and nuns.
When they came to visit they took the habit or collar off and were just regular people.
We tried not to cuss too much in front of our aunt the nun.

She never ever talked about God or religion. We respected her a great deal but
she was just our aunt not a nun. She was not a nun by her own choice.
In Irish families the youngest female in the family is sent to the convent at age 11.
Youngest boy goes to the seminary at a young age.

We didn't carry on about religion outside of church.
Didn't get all wrapped up in dogma or religion.
Didn't study the bible or even mention it.
We did not get all dolled up to go to mass, never over the top.

We saw the Italian and Mexican versions of Catholicism as quite unusual
and foreign to us. Like they had gone off the deep end with all of it.

Sat Apr 26, 2025, 08:05 AM
Apr 26

Blue, and Navy Blue are very different. Of course Trump never takes good advice.

Navy Blue: The darkest of the blue suit family, navy often appears almost black in certain lighting. True navy has deep blue undertones and creates a formal, sophisticated appearance. Navy suits typically contain little to no bright blue pigment, making them understated and classic...

Royal Blue: Sitting in the middle of the spectrum, royal blue offers vibrant, medium-to-bright blue coloring. This shade is impossible to mistake for black and makes a more noticeable statement. Royal blue suits contain significant amounts of pure blue pigment, creating that eye-catching quality...

Light Blue: At the brightest end, light blue suits encompass pale blue, sky blue, and powder blue variations. These suits have significant white mixed with blue pigment, creating a soft, less saturated appearance. Light blue suits project a modern, seasonal vibe.

I was the only person attending, apart from the funeral home staff, that wore a suite and tie. Most men wore dress shirts and slacks, with maybe a sport coat here and there, but some in fact wore jeans. It was just as casual for the women. I honestly didn't care, and if anyone in attendance deserved to be offended by causal attire, it was me. Granted, one would be expected to step up their game for a papal funeral, but it sounds like Biden also wore blue, so I don't see an issue.

Decent, dark clothing is acceptable. Unless there are dress requirements at the site of the funeral/burial, such as with this one, apparently. Men were requested to wear dark suit and tie, and that should have been followed. If women had been required to wear a veil, or otherwise appear in appropriate attire, they should have followed that request.

Some people, no matter how much money or power they have, are simply uncouth and not suited for proper civilized society.
