Politicians always campaign on change. Sometimes it carries more weight than other times. It is most effective when the majority feel the need for "change". Whether it be the economy, crime, war, or downright incompetence, people are always looking for change.
We could deduce from the present polls of the incumbent that we are headed to a "change' election, in my opinion. If the country has ever been on the wrong track, it is now.
But the question on many minds is, can the Democratic Party offer the change that people want? The polls for Democrats is even lower than those of Donald Trump and the Republicans.
So, if the people want change, do the Democrats offer the same as in previous elections? In my opinion, it is obvious that they are looking for a big change. Something almost earth-shaking that divorces itself from the present political realities. That is just my opinion.
Perceptions are very difficult to change.
How do we change perceptions?

You go out on the road (probably 4x/yr for the President) and tell people what youve done. Attack immediately any republican who voted against what you did to help the people but then try to take credit for it (go to ground breaking ceremonies and such).
Be relentless about republicans taking away your rights and your freedoms. The constitution is important but for some strange reason many people think thats just a piece of paper with little connection to them.
Pound on the fact that republicans are stripping you of your rights? Thats a start. Dont give Rs a hiding place. They dont deserve it.

Unfortunately for Poilievre, he was personally unable to change his campaign since he is all slogans and nastiness. Fortunately Canada may have dodged a bullet if Conservatives do as projected and fail to win the election.
