https://www.wonkette.com/p/trump-approval-numbers-are-biglyWe don't think cheering on Columbus Day is going to pull them out of their tailspin.

Let us hold a moment of silence for the poor White House employee who was on presidential diaper duty early Monday morning when Donald Trump, after presumably stewing over a slew of negative polls showing that hes less popular than liver cancer, let off a nuclear blast of a stinker.
And boy, are those polls bad. Large majorities of voters, unsurprisingly, loathe much of what Trump has done since his inauguration. A CNN poll has his approval at 41 percent. Polls from the AP and The Washington Post have him below 40 percent. The New York Times has him at a relatively robust 42 percent. These numbers are, as has been widely reported, historically awful for a president at the end of his first 100 days in office.
In fact, the only president who has ever been down this badly at this point in his term was Trump during his first administration.
And we havent even gotten to a lot of the bad results that hes causing yet! Wait until his stupid trade war results in empty store shelves because product shipments from China have all but ceased. People who study supply chains have been sounding alarms. So we hope youve already bought all your kids Christmas gifts.
We know that President 200 Deals must have blown out his colon like it was a SpaceX rocket disintegrating over the Bahamas when he saw these poll numbers, because as ever, he disgorged all the bile and insecurity into a post on his vanity social media site, TruthSocial.

The "doing" part since has only made the recognition of his character more widespread, causing the intense dislike to spread.

Instead of dealing with the failures that have led to his drop in support, the president is blaming pollsters and news organizations.

Trump could deal with the failures that have made him so unpopular.
But he apparently finds it easier to call for investigations into "criminal" pollsters rhetoric that's become difficult to simply shrug off.

For his part, Trump has seen the shift in public attitudes, and hes ready to reassess the direction of his failing presidency.
No, Im just kidding. Hes actually lashing out at pollsters in new and ridiculous ways. Newsweek noted:
As this week got underway, Trump, shortly before sunrise, published an item to his social media platform that read, We dont have a Free and Fair Press in this Country anymore. We have a Press that writes BAD STORIES, and CHEATS, BIG, ON POLLS. IT IS COMPROMISED AND CORRUPT. SAD!
That came shortly on the heels of a related item, in which he lashed out at FAKE POLLS FROM FAKE NEWS ORGANIZATIONS. The president added, These people should be investigated for ELECTION FRAUD, and add in the FoxNews Pollster while youre at it......
The hysterics were not altogether surprising. Trump did, after all, sue The Des Moines Register for publishing the results of a poll he didnt like. So it stands to reason that hed freak out in response to an avalanche of survey data showing his fading popularity.
But to the extent that reality has any bearing on this discussion, there are a few things to keep in mind here. The first is that there is no conspiracy: Polls show Trump struggling because Trump is failing and much of the public has noticed.
Second, the basis of the presidents weird conspiracy theory is absurd on its face: Pollsters cant be engaged in election interference when there is no election, and the politician in question cant run for re-election. (Even if there were an election, of course, theres nothing improper about releasing public opinion research that one party doesnt like.)
Third, and most importantly, some might feel the temptation to simply shrug off Trumps call for an investigation into criminal polling, but given recent events, that seems inherently risky. This president has already a demonstrated a willingness to direct the Justice Department to go after his perceived foes, and theres no reason to assume hell abandon these authoritarian-style tactics anytime soon.

President Donald Trump has said pollsters that have shown his approval ratings sliding in recent weeks should be investigated for election fraud. Trump cited recent polls from The New York Times, ABC News/The Washington Post, and Fox News, which put his approval rating on 42 percent, 39 percent, and 44 percent respectively.
