NJ-GOV: Muslim advocacy groups endorse Baraka (D) for governor

A coalition of Muslim advocacy groups endorsed Newark Mayor Ras Baraka for governor on Monday.

Emgage Action, Council on American–Islamic Relations Action New Jersey, and New Jersey Muslim Civic Coalition Activate announced their endorsement of the Democrat in a press release. The groups said Baraka is the candidate most likely to effectively champion economic growth, equity, and public safety.

“[The groups’] commitment to justice, pluralism, and human rights resonates deeply with my own values,” Baraka said in a release. “Together, we will continue to advocate for policies that uphold the dignity and rights of all communities. I look forward to working alongside them to build a more inclusive and equitable society.”

Six Democrats seeking to replace term-limited Gov. Phil Murphy will be on the ballot in the June 10 primary. Nearly 10,000 Democrats have already voted by mail, according to Associated Press researcher Ryan Dubicki.
