First, in some states, you get pregnant and you can't obtain an abortion.
So you have a child.
And the federal and state governments don't provide for "welfare" anymore.
So you have to work.
And you put your child in Head Start so you can both work and avoid having to pay for a babysitter or daycare for profit. You're doing the right thing, being responsible.
Now, with DOGE, etc., you lose your Head Start school. Your child can't stay home alone. You likely don't have the money to pay for his/her care. So you have to choose between working and going bankrupt (and/or evicted or hungry) and staying home (and also evicted and/or hungry).
You are condemned to poverty. Your child is condemned to poverty.

The children are students. They don't run around on the playground and drink juice.
Plus, Head Start may be the only nutritious meal the children get five days a week.

They could be trained in various jobs and have cooking classes and such. That would cost a lot of money but we could reap dividends from such programs for years to come.
