Russia can mobilize for war on a scale comparable to the Soviet Union during World War II if necessary, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on April 30.
"If a great country needs to stand up, it will stand up at any moment. No one can have any doubts," Peskov said during a lecture at the Victory Museum in Moscow.
He claimed that "millions" of Russians are already assisting the military effort against Ukraine by collecting aid, sending equipment and ammunition to the front line with personal funds, and weaving camouflage nets.

(36,456 posts)If Russia could throw more manpower at Ukraine, they would have already.
Ukraine should be worried about Belarus; Putin may be coercing them into opening a new front on the Northwest.

(1,284 posts)That's how it appears to me. Sad that people can't or won't see the connection to Ukraine and the Russian aggression that they promised after WWII.
Western democracy lies on the brink. We should have allowed Ukraine to bomb further into Russia earlier. As long as Russian people are not feeling the brunt of the fighting, Putin will prevail.

(4,572 posts)the heavy losses among junior officers*, and an ongoing shortage of skilled personnelalongside Moscow's clear reluctance to engage in direct confrontations, its failure to secure air superiority, and the need to fend off attacks deep within its own bordersit seems that, beyond his current strategy of attrition and waiting out the West, Putin is rapidly running out of viable options. I think Putin's figuring out that his useful idiot, Mr. trump, is more idiot than useful.
