that during the medieval period, Jews were prohibited from participating in most of the trades because of the accusation of being responsible for Jesus' death. Christianity at the time prohibited Christians from loaning money with interest. Lending money with interest was one of the few activities that Jews were allowed to perform.

Compound interest is probably the fastest way to increase wealth. Jews became wealthy rather quickly. Christians were jealous of the wealth.

That, according to my professor, is the primary reason that Jews are disliked. Jealousy. All of that due to the ridiculous restrictions being placed on them for "killing Jesus".

Sorry, this is long, but very relevant to what's happening now in the U.S.

The Nazi's very cleverly, and successfully, propagandized the Jews pre-WW2 to make the public hate them.
This feeling spread to the West to some extent, with even some prominent Americans agreeing with the smears. The Nazi's banned Jews from participating in German society because they did not have Aryan blood. They stripped them of their citizenship if they were not Aryan, and seized all of their property, stating that non-Germans could not own anything in Germany. Stores, homes, jewelry, savings, etc.. The Nazi's passed the Nuremberg Laws that included much of this and brainwashed the public with it. Jewish Doctors and Lawyers were not permitted to practice anymore. the number of Jewish students permitted to attend schools was limited, and all the while this was propagandized. (The Doctors were dangerous, Lawyers shady, students dumb).They took pictures of Rabbis in their religious garb, which was alien to many, and mocked them publicly. They made fun of people who spoke Yiddish, which sounded strange. They began to dehumanize them, calling them "vermin" that tainted society, criminals, avaricious, untrustworthy.

This went on for several years, starting before the 1936 Olympics. Hitler toned it down for a while when they were under international scrutiny. After the Olympics the pace picked up until it wasn't hard to get away with moving to the extermination phase. A whole generation of young people saw Jews who were not prominent in society, were poor, uneducated (but not really), were not full citizens, didn't seem to contribute to society in any real way, were dehumanized.

**Here's where it gets really familiar. The German's started with an extermination program, beginning with people with Downs, and other disabilities, along with gay people. People they thought everyone would be ok with. The German public didn't like that at all, and raised hell. So those in charge changed the name of the program from "Extermination" to "Relocation," and it worked; the German people were ok with that as long as they were just getting gays and disabled people out of the country. When they started "relocating" Jews along with the others, who seemed to also be a drag on society and undesirable, no one said much of anything. Afterall, they weren't citizens, they owned nothing, the kids were stupid, they spoke in a strange language at times, and were called vermin by their Fuhrer. Why did they do this? There are several proposals, some having to do with Germany losing WWI, others having to do with how clever and resourceful the Jewish community was. But it's still under debate. But how they did it is clear.

**That's how it's done: especially if they are alienated, stripped of their citizenship; there are no courts to defend them, and you manipulate or own the media to convince the public they are vermin, dangerous criminals, and dead weight.

18. How long do you have? Basically, old habits die hard.

The hate of the Jew predates Christianity, though it really helped foment most of what we see today, but they aren't wholly responsible. The first reason is generally "exclusivity". Jews are often seen as "tribal" and didn't engage with other groups other than trade. This made them "suspicious". Couple that with the fact Jews don't seek converts and rarely married outside the community, it morphed into "what are they trying to hide". Then, supposedly, came Jesus of Nazareth. And, oh boy, did THAT fuck things up. A prevailing theory is the New Jews, now calling themselves Christians, claimed it was Jews, not the Romans who were responsible for the death of their savior. This was likely due to their wanting to retain favor with the prevailing force in the world at the time, The Roman Empire. Deicide stuck!

As time progressed, it was easy to blame Jews because no matter where one went, they were a minority, followed their own rules, and rarely bent the knee to the leading power, if it conflicted with Jewish Law. Eventually, other forms of anti-Semitism cropped up, usually based on circumstance.

• "Jews are tribal or cliquish." More often than not, Jews were not allowed to live anywhere they wanted. They were not allowed to own land and could easily be displaced at a moment's notice as a group. Jews, while not often wanting to marry outside the religion/culture, in most places, they weren't even allowed.
  
• "Jews are spreaders of disease." This was based on a variety of disease outbreaks all over the world, at different times. New research shows, unsurprisingly, the Jews usually weren't "as affected" by disease because of strict bathing and washing rituals, add to the fact they were often an isolate population, if they didn't have contact with others, they didn't get the disease, and by some's "logic" this was proof they were the reason for the disease."
  
• "Jews control the money and/or seats of power." Enter the "court Jew". This was a Jew, given a position by the ruler of the nation, state or region, to handle the money, and sometimes the affairs of state as directed by the regent. If shit hit the fan, the Jew, therefore mean all Jews, were responsible because they failed to do as commanded by the true power. Of course, the "money thing" really took off because Christianity forbad usury. So, the Jews handled the money and collecting it, including taxes, but instead of the reigning power being blamed, once again, Jews, as a whole, were blamed.
  
• "Jews are more loyal to each other." This is similar to the first comment about "cliquishness" but expands into Jews being a "5th column" in various places. That they, the Jews, were never loyal to the king, Pope, what-have-you, but only to each other. This anti-Semitic trope morphed into a modern favorite; "Jews are more loyal to Israel". Demonstrating anti-Semitism's viral like quality, changing to meet the needs of new surroundings and conditions.
  
• "Jews are parasites." This is akin to an amalgamation of several stereotypes, including disease-spreading, collecting taxes/money, and preying upon the poor Christian, and later, Muslim populations, in which Jews actively seek to destroy the prevailing cultures, religions, and/or peoples in order to establish a new order. See that term? New Order? See that is one its origins. It even inspired a best-seller in the world, "The Protocols of The Elders of Zion", a Russian forgery which has inspired all kinds of hate and bigotry against the Jews. They are also "parasitic" in their need for "Christian blood" and thus, the Blood Libel was born.

Of course, the above is not the entire story. But anti-Semitism does evolve and has to meet the needs of various times and places, including the here and now. Like many minorities, those of us who excel are often otherized as "the exception", and any of us who act in bad ways, are exemplified as the "rule". Anti-Semitism is an easy target to dismiss, much like the Jews, even trying to redefine it in order to exclude Jews, that is how disgusting and pernicious anti-Semitism is.

Why the Jews? Easy target. Why the Jews? Easy to blame them for their own misfortunes and bigotry. Whay the Jews? Well, simply, why not?

Christians put themselves above Jews, because they're jealous God made them first, and then sent his Jew son to "save" them.
