I am saying it clear and loud to President Trump and his Cabinet: I am not afraid of you," Mahdawi said outside the cour

I'm not sure I would have made the same choice. Living in a country where you've just angered the government is unlikely to be good for one’s long-term safety. While he's currently home in Vermont, how safe is he, really? Is someone tracking him? Does he drive himself? There are countless ways a government can quietly make someone’s life difficult. I know he was nearing the final step—whatever that entails—in the citizenship process. Given the circumstances, I doubt it will happen anytime soon, possibly not for the next four years, though I could be wrong.

Just to clarify: the Secretary of State oversees the Department of State, which is responsible for U.S. passports, diplomacy, and issuing visas through consulates abroad. While the Secretary can influence immigration policy, especially regarding foreign nationals, they do not make decisions about naturalization, green cards, or asylum. Those processes fall under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and are specifically handled by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Kristi Noem.

Anti-Israel activist Mohsen Mahdawi, who was released from federal custody on Wednesday per a ruling of the U.S. District Court for the District of Vermont, allegedly told a Vermont gun shop owner in 2015 that he used to build weapons in Judea and Samaria to kill Jews, per a court filing.

Over two visits to the gun shop, Mahdawi, who led anti-Israel protests at Columbia University in 2024, told the owner that he wanted to learn more about firearms and to buy a sniper rifle and an automatic weapon, according to the owner.

The shop owner, who contacted the police about the visits, said that Mahdawi told him that he “had considerable firearm experience and used to build modified 9mm submachine guns to kill Jews while he was in Palestine,” per court documents.

The shop owner also informed police that he had heard from a frequent customer that Mahdawi had made other troubling comments. Mahdawi told the customer, during a visit to a museum in Windsor, “I like to kill Jews,” the customer told the owner.
