Trump's 'skinny' budget expected to land Friday

https://www.politico.com/live-updates/2025/05/01/congress/trumps-skinny-budget-expected-to-land-friday-00322246

The White House is expected Friday to release a sparse outline of President Donald Trump’s budget request, according to two administration officials granted anonymity to share plans not yet made public.

The so-called skinny budget will give lawmakers on Capitol Hill guidance as they try to get moving on the fiscal 2026 appropriations process. A more detailed budget request is expected to be sent later this month.

Republican appropriators in the House have grown impatient to see the White House’s targets for government funding in the next fiscal year. Many have been pleading with the administration to quickly send over the more robust budget so they can get started on writing the dozen bills Congress has to clear each year to fund the government.

It is not yet clear if the skinny budget will incorporate Trump’s $9.3 billion rescissions request for funding already approved by Congress — which he wants Congress to claw back. Appropriators on Capitol Hill hope to review the proposed spending cuts before the White House releases it publicly.
