Fan-bros are complaining about the depiction of sexual assault in "Andor". They claim that the Star Wars villains
would not tolerate sexual assault as part of their exercise of absolute power.
It reminds me of one of the most horrific images I can remember seeing from my childhood.
Star Wars has unambiguously portrayed the Galactic Empire as Space Nazis. From the very beginning. The uniforms, the jackboots, the stormtroopers (Sturmabteilung, in German), the murderous pursuit of absolute power, using genocide as a tool. To suggest that the Empire (in its Space Nazi guise) would draw the line at sexual assault is alpha-bro idiocy at its worst.
My father was an amateur historian of World War II, and the Nazis' place in all of it, and owned innumerable books on the subject. I was thumbing through them when I was as young as six or seven. I saw a photograph in one of them that had been taken on the streets of Warsaw, or another occupied Eastern European city. A woman had just been raped by a Nazi on the street, in broad daylight. She was naked, and a woman was gently helping her to get dressed, and trying to comfort her. The rape victim gestured furiously at the camera, anguished, humiliated, in pain and helpless rage. I was shocked to my core. I was days getting over that horrible image.
Apologizing for Nazis, or their thinly-disguised cinematic counterparts, is tacitly supporting their ideology. Rape is warfare. Bottom line.
