The Latina Civic PAC has recommended Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair) for the Democratic nomination for governor, giving the four-term congresswoman the support of a statewide group with an ability to raise money and influence votes.
Were supporting Mikie because she is battle tested she has a strong track record of standing up to Trump and Musk, and an innovative plan to lower costs, expand access to safe and affordable housing, and build opportunities for working families in our state, stated Noemi Velazquez, chair of Latina Civic PACs Endorsements Committee. Mikie has also long demonstrated her commitment to increasing representation in New Jersey by working hard to elect Latino candidates and women from all backgrounds up and down the ballot.
The non-partisan Latina Civic PAC seeks to engage Latinas in the political process and increase their numbers in elected and appointed offices.
Four candidates sought the groups endorsement: Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop, Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Tenafly), and Sherrill.

(1,023 posts)While I realize that many democrats automatically check the box anytime someone calls themselves a Democrat, it should. be remembered Mikie Sherill was in the Blue Dog Caucus until 2023, when the group split over rebranding (i.e., not over its right-wing perspective). Jared Golden, a DU favorite (not!), led the traditionalists who love the name. Golden's faction won, and the re-brander wannabes left the caucus. Most wound up in the "Problem Solvers," the other far right group of House Democrats. The pre-split Blue Dog group was instrumental in torpedoing Biden's "Go Big or Go Home" agenda, and they insisted that any infrastructure bill have watered-down environmental language to attract "bipartisan" GOP votes. The story from Politico follows, but remember to substitute "right-winger" for "moderate" any time you read Politico:

Careful what you wish for. That goes for Abigail Spanberger, too, whose photo headlines the Politico article.
