....mostly from foreign sources? Especially stories about the National Guard of California or the LA protest?
They are always anti-American, of course. But the propaganda seems to be directed toward disenchanted Democrats, in my opinion.
Anyone else see an increase in foreign news sites?

(53,199 posts)but it is obvious when reading comments from a local San Diego news station on the protest which was the largest in San Diego history amd had over 60,000 people that 99% of them were trolls or more likely bots. San Diego HATES tRump so for all that negative BS it was clear they were fake. I report them and a zillion more take their places. When I write that all the comments are paid bots⁰0 by Putin they get deleted right away.

(3,461 posts)It was an internet radio service. Youd seek a song and theyd build a station based on it. Except youd start with, Master Of Puppets by Metallica and 2 hours later theyd be suggesting smooth jazz but they slowly brought you there.
Its an algorithm that says hey you like politics. How about this? No? Ok maybe this! Try that one! Algorithms are a nightmare.

(529 posts)I don't think there's anything sinister about their algorithms. They're just not very sophisticated. The key to using it and being happy with the results is to select bands that aren't too popular. For example, choosing Madness results in lots of pop 80's tunes of all kinds of styles; choosing The Toasters results in ska bands almost exclusively - including Madness. Pandora isn't smart enough to understand why we like what we like, so it offers things that seem to fit. Choosing bands that are popular links Pandora to many other bands you may not like. It's a matter of narrowing your search. If you like The Clash (like I do) select a radio station based on The Cramps or The Ramones.
Algorithms are not a nightmare in my opinion. They are limited, so one needs to know how to use them given their limitations.

(29,561 posts)I just stick to my usual channels. There are a lot of channels for disaffected Democrats but the ones I watch mostly support the Democrats but just want them to do better
I have seen channels like you describe before like Richard Medhurst might be an example of what you mean but I don't subscribe to them.
As far as propaganda the Western MSM is very biased and sometimes foreign news sources can be more accurate or give you a complete picture. For example there's been a lot of misinformation about the Syrian civil war and mostly from Russian sources but not too long ago CNN contributed to that by faking rescuing a detainee from Assad's prisons and a lot of foreign news sources jumped all over them for that.
I think it is important to have a strong media literacy to be able to sort through the BS coming from all directions.
