Question....how is it possible that when a DU post goes up, instantly 1, or 2, or 3 have already read post?

Wondering just how is it possible that when I post something at DU,
The moment it does post for me, it almost always already has count that it’s been read.

Usually by 1
Sometimes by 2 or 3

Yet it was just that second posted by me

How is that possible?

If it is an article from a magazine or newspaper the person may have already read it.

If it is a video the person may have already watched it.

If it is a pod cast the person may have already heard it.

If it is something you wrote I don't have an answer.

The admins would know better, but it wouldn't surprise me if there are hundreds, occasionally thousands of people on the website at the same time, during the day.

Dunno - just guessing.

I've wondered the same thing.

Note: many views do not include reading.

View counts are only kept for threads (Original Posts), not posts (replies).

You are one of those instant views. When the completed post displays to you, that's one view. The others are people who clicked on it as soon as it appeared on the thread list. It's not surprising, really.

They register each new post, which gets added to their own database. Google has bots. So do other search engines. DU is one of the sites that gets tracked all the time.

When I have worked up the nerve to make a post, I’ve always felt gratified by the number of 'people' who read it right away. LOL . . . now I realize it’s just been bot traffic.
