Star baseball player turned away by a San Francisco high school for having gay parents

https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2025/06/this-school-wanted-a-baseball-star-to-attend-until-they-found-out-his-dads-are-gay/?fbclid=IwY2xjawK_teBleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETF0YUU5NUFMVnlXM0djdTFWAR6k7_2tUCFVoxYXl8sD-8xn4jZkRnqgM1ygav2KGpJAha_3b60YuhQhLWushQ_aem_fecmaWurBUFE6Jx86e0Ugw

A private school in the San Francisco Bay Area really wanted to recruit a baseball star to go to their school and play on their team. But it completely dropped its pursuit when they learned that his parents are gay.

Rising high-school freshman Caleb Degala-Burnett and his dads, Mike Degala and Master Burnett, claim that coaches and administrators at Valley Christian, in Dublin, California, were impressed with the 14-year-old outfielder’s performance at a recent invite-only showcase and with his ranking as a college prospect and potential pro draft pick, according to the San Francisco Standard. The family says Valley Christian courted Caleb this past spring, going so far as to offer financial assistance to help cover the school’s $24,000-per-year tuition.

end of quote

You almost have to give them credit for actually believing in the stuff. Many a school would have pretended they didn't know. But goes to show you that even in San Francisco haters are going to hate.

2. It's a "christian" school so it's okay to discriminate

If I was the star baseball player I wouldn’t want to go to that school. They are predators and don’t follow the teachings that they pretend to believe in. But they broke Jesus 2 commandments. Tsk tsk, no “heaven” for them!

3. Just the fact that it's a private "Christian" school should have been a giveaway

that they wouldn't accept this kid once they found out his parents were gay. Their loss, though. Their hateful policy cost them a star athlete.

5. The title incorrectly identifies SF as the location of the offending school.

It’s actually in Dublin, CA, a suburban community east of SF. As for the school itself, it probably doesn’t matter where they’re located - “christians” gonna “christian”.

6. This is in Dublin CA, not San Francisco itself. Dublin is about 30 miles as the crow flies east/south-east of SF.

Not nearly as liberal as San Francisco itself (but not MAGA red).

Company I work for has an office in Pleasanton, right next to Dublin. Its over the mountains, south and east of San Francisco. Its 40 miles away by car. I'd say the area is purple, definitely not MAGA red but also not SF blue.

is why is said athlete (and parents) interested in attending a school with such values? Wouldn't 'conservative Christian' values be an automatic 'no go' for this family? ( sure would be for me and my kid ! )
