Anyone here following the Karen Reid story? She was accused of murdering her

boyfriend by running him over...the crime scene was not secured. There was all sorts of evidence that led many to believe she was being railroaded. It sounds like the victim got in a fight with one of his police buddies who punched him...he died. They dragged him into the snow and decided to frame Karen Reid...two trials. The first one a hung jury...one juror. But they tried the case again. This time the defense had more evidence that had likely been withheld. Today she was acquitted of murder...got a DUI with a year of probation. The corruption in this police department and I think the prosecutors and police were in on it...Even the judge seemed biased. When she was acquitted there were tons of people who cheered. I don't think anyone was on the side of the prosecutor who did a terrible job...but he had little to work with really. I think she was railroaded by a cops, prosecutors and maybe even the judge.

Yeah, the cops and local officials/connected are corrupt as fuck. That Mike Proctor is a despicable shit. THIS FBI would never look into it, but there is no way she could have been found guilty when you see all the steps those involved took to cover up evidence and contaminate the process.

I hope a deep documentary is done about this case and the trial, because those motherfuckers tried to pin it on her.

I was shocked at the corruption. I hadn't followed it. But I am going to watch the netflix show. Two trials even though the first one was a hung jury with purportedly only one juror refusing to vote for acquittal. And they seriously paid unbelievable amounts of money to their 'experts'..I use the word experts loosely.

It's called A Body in the Snow, and it looks like you can watch the first episode online from this image:

It might also be viewable through Hulu, but I'm not certain.

what I hear and they tried the case again. Officer Proctor was fired eventually. I think she was railroaded too. As soon as she is off probation for the DUI, I hope she leaves the area. I don't think it is safe for her. She had about a thousand supporters waiting for today's verdict. The cops said they couldn't cheer...but cheer the crowd did. And they used the sign language sign for I love you as a way to communicate too. I was very moved...this had gone on for almost four years. I believe she was railroaded by the cops, the DA and maybe the judge in the second trial was in on it.

PS: as a woman I happy to see other women stand up for Karen Reid who was being railroaded by mostly men IMHO. They wanted to pin a crime she didn't commit on her. They were willing to let her rot in jail while one of their own (cop)who actually punched the victim and killed him walked.

it was 12 to 0 on the first and third charge. It was the second one where there was disagreement.

Same judge in both trials. Her bias showed more this time.

So, I appreciate the short summary of the case from what appears to be the majority public perspective... So, I'm guessing this outcome is a good one...

There was a massive coverup to protect the cop who likely punched the victim and ended up killing him...didn't even call an ambulance-dragged him into the snow. The scene was not preserved, the victim had dog bites...the dog involved was rehomed (I hope that is true) and the house sold. This is why I won't serve on Juries. I could never convict.

among the strangest cases of the past century. The outcome was fair and just.

Ms. Read was accused of backing into her S.O., which resulted in his death. At first, that seemed to make sense. Intoxicated people are not known for making good choices when emotions hold the reins. But then other factors were reported by a guy with a pod cast. He was known as "Turtleboy" to the public, though local police were fully aware of him.

It began to look like Mr. O'Keefe was lured to this after-hours party by a very drunk ATF agent. This fellow had the hots for Ms. Read, who had kind of led him on previously, and is seen in the physical aggression with others that one can accurately connect with drunk male teens. He seemed focused on Mr. O'Keefe, after Ms. Read was "ghosting" (I hope I have the younger generation's word right) him in the bar, and he expressed a bit of frustration.

An alternative theory began to come to light. The wounds found on Mr. O'Keefe's body did not match what one would expect for being hit by an SUV. They were more like what one might expect to find resulting from a fight ...... it does not take a hard punch to knock a drunk out. I know this from boxing and other fights. It looked like his head hit something hard. And that at some point, a large dog had attacked him, wounding his arm. The house owners of the party had a German Shepard with a history, that they got rid of the night of the incident.

The lead investigator believed his three friends from the party. He was convinced Ms. Read was guilty before even visiting the scene. He was furious that she killed a cop -- or so he believed. A series of e-mails with co-workers including his supervisor show that he was severely burned-out. There is significant evidence showing he planted evidence -- often the short-cut that is associated with various other police scandals.

If that happened, it would not be a large conspiracy of dozens of people. It only requires two people in the house, and two cops running the investigation. Others believed them, and took them at their word. They believed them too long. Some of them sincerely believe Ms. Read killed him. They are caught up in emotion, of course. It could not be otherwise. But the level of weakness and police corruption made it impossible for a very talented prosecutor to prove his case beyond a reasonable doubt.

Undoubtedly headed for Dateline or one of the others if it hasn't already been covered.

I've watched both trials. And I watch pod casts by lawyers or serious police investigators(retired). Coverage of the case was global.
