Sigh. Iowa's first female governor signs law that fits more in the 19th century, not the 21st.

Iowa's first female governor signs law that will set women back...

As of July 1, a new law signed by Iowa’s first female governor will make it illegal for Des Moines to intentionally recruit, hire, or retain female police officers.
It’s a sad day when Governor Kim Reynolds, a member of an underrepresented group who has benefited from efforts to broaden the mix in power, shuts the door behind her. The very institution of policing will suffer for it and so, besides the women excluded, will those who depend on it to protect us, fairly and equally.[

It boggles my mind that they can be this way, and yet...
every last one of them is just horrible.

And the seemingly moderate ones, who want to appear
decent, march with the party line most of the time.

Any decent person would leave the party.

You can't totally prohibit people from an occupation based on gender.

And for a woman to sign it is insane.

… or at least prior to Mitch McConnell packing the SCOTUS with religious fundamentalists.

As we just saw with the transgender ruling, they can’t be trusted to adhere to precedent, logic, reality, etc.

This governor is stupid to treat women this way. I hope the lawsuits start immediately.

And stuff like this hurts the cause by making us look like we are always overreacting.

This doesn't outlaw female police officers. It's an anti-DEI law. The key word in the headline in "intentionally", and i think it was written this way to confuse people.

The law says they can't have DEI departments, initiatives, or policies.

Bad enough on its own, but nothing like what the writer is trying to make people think.
