by one capitalist parasite. My dad surprised me with enough to live on when he died.

However, you should feel about being a useless eater. Every bit of useless eating we do employs farmers, processors, truck drivers, warehouse people, office staff for all of this and grocery workers at the end. So have another helping and bottoms up. You're still contributing.

I'm just not starting SS yet. I have a pension from my state employment (public high school teacher & University administrator/faculty), my spouse is already drawing SS (she's 5 years older - we probably should have started drawing hers at 65, since she doesn't have hereditary longevity), and we each had $30,000 annuities, so we're drawing those down so they will vanish about the time I hit 70.

Thu Jul 24, 2025, 10:42 AM

And extended that out to age 70 when the full enhancement would kick in and then figured out how long it would take to reach the amount for 3 years and 4 months.

But it doesn't stop there because as I would have recovered the deficit in the first few years, the full retirement benefits would continue to be paid out (look at it as two steps forward, one step back situation).

Extrapolating that data, I wouldn't have caught up until 82 and it's not a given that I will last that long even given my commitment to a healthy lifestyle.

That drove my decision.

Thu Jul 24, 2025, 12:41 AM

due to a very old judgement for a credit card debt---

however, since Social Security income is exempt from such judgements,
and all the money came from there over the past 3 months,
after some research I have hopes of getting it back....

(and this was unusual--- I've had that old judgement hanging over my head for many years,
but it was for more money than I've had in my bank account---
there were several attempts to garnish money from my bank,
for the entire amount due, but my bank previously always rejected the attempts,
and returned them to the creditor as "funds not available"---)

but this morning, I found my entire savings account emptied, $1250.01...
which I was saving up to pay up back property taxes....

My checking account was not touched,
but I transferred a little too much money to savings,
trying to avoid spending and pay these back taxes....

I am looking into poverty-based legal representation, should it come to that
but I think my bank made a legal mistake allowing this
