Good for the mom. Too bad she didn't pay enough attention to her kid earlier though. Now she should be liable for at least half of the damage.

My bff from elementary school in Miami became Florida Boy when he had his computer seized by the FBI after breaking into DoD systems in the early 80s, grew up to star in a Florida Man story unique enough that I'd identify him by even a vague retelling.

They're kids who did stupid kid things. Let the juvenile courts sort it out.

When I was about that age on a school field trip, some of my classmates stole a bunch of presents from a charity box under a Salvation Army Christmas tree. That was in the bluest possible area of the bluest possible state and all of them were suspended from school for a month, had to do probation and then grew up to become more or less functional members of society in part because their faces weren't splattered all over the national news.

Tween lack of impulse control is a thing as is the need to protect the privacy of juvenile offenders. I can't believe they're allowed to show their full faces on that last link.

And for people piling on this as a chance to trash Florida, the Moms who did the right thing are clearly Florida residents as well.

(and why we're featuring it here on DU?)
Kids have been doing this kind of crap for years. And, all in all, it's really kind of humdrum - and ho-hum.

And perhaps the most significant part of this whole affair - is that the moms turned the little sh*theads in. Thumbs up for moms walking the walk, and insisting on some 'consequences'.

Let it be handled by the parents, the school, and the local community.

Leave the outrage bait and culture for the grown-ups, for fucks sake.

There was a reason kids were not allowed access to movies and media.

Now everything is there, but the maturity to comprehend it is lacking.

Kids cannot be kids any more.

They really grow up too fast.

We need, as a people/society to take a hard look at the conditions these youngsters are growing up in. We need to find out the causes and address the anger so many have. This isn't a local problem with a couple of boys. It is a societal problem and sometimes kids become a lot more violent. Combined with access to firearms and we have a serious epidemic of very dangerous people.

Just keeping these things local is like saying 'boys will be boys' and all of us go about our business.

This is a glaring symptom that there serious problems affecting our youngsters. We ignore it and it only gets worse.

before it interferes with the education of other kids that utilize this library.

I read that their moms turned them in. I'm honestly shocked about that, but good for them. I hope this is truly a case of "kids are stupid and do stupid things" and not something more.
