So that, in some wretched way the Nobel Committee awards dufus the prize he so desperately seeks.
But then, Hamas backs out or just simply breaks the terms.
Can the prize be rescinded or taken back?

(127,728 posts)It's a long way from an accomplished cease-fire that is likely hold. The Nobel committee embarrassed itself in 1973 by awarding the prize jointly to Henry Kissinger and Lê Đức Thọ for negotiating the Paris Peace Accords. Under the agreement, direct American intervention in the conflict was ended and the remaining U.S. troops were to be withdrawn from Vietnam in exchange for a ceasefire and the cessation of conflict between North and South Vietnam. However, the agreement was not ratified by the United States Senate, and fighting restarted before American soldiers left the country. Additionally, South Vietnam had not been consulted on the terms of the agreement, and in fact had not even been informed that negotiations had resumed. The South Vietnamese government subsequently refused to accept the accords, and North and South Vietnamese forces both frequently broke the terms of the agreement. In other words, the deal was never a deal and it fell apart. The resulting controversy caused two of the committee members to resign in protest; Lê Đức Thọ refused to accept it and Kissinger later tried to return it. I hardly think the current Nobel Committee wants a reprise.
