They are trying to slip it into the "REOPEN THE GOVERNMENT" bill so that it passes with no discussion, no debate, and most likely never having been read by members of Congress who are notorious for not reading what they sign. Oh, that RASCAL Mitch! No wonder he is so universally loved and respected. The ban, led by Senator Mitch McConnell and Maryland Congressman Andy Harris, would alter the language classifying hemp products under the 2026 Agriculture and FDA Appropriations Bill.
"The provision would close the hemp loophole that has resulted in the proliferation of unregulated intoxicating hemp products. The existing hemp definition has resulted in an unintended consequence that has allowed for intoxicating hemp-derived synthetic products to be made and sold.
Depending on how they construct the law, if they do a no-THC ban, there's no way to grow industrial hemp without THC in the product. So if they eliminate that, it's going to eliminate every hemp farmer in the country," said Jeremy Dybdahl, a CBD business owner in Berrien Springs.

(51,358 posts)since the THCA gummies became available online. Also it is an excellent alternative to alcohol.
I'm sure many republicans enjoy their edibles as well. This is hardly a popular position for a politician.

(11,716 posts)Hemp, I tried it. Nowhere near as good as street weed, but a reasonable alternative that won't get you baked unless one takes way too many. And we can have it delivered to our door.

(51,358 posts)I don't go out these days, so I have pretty much everything delivered. These new THCA edibles are incredible and they are legal everywhere. I cut mine into quarters and it takes very little to get me relaxed enough to sleep. Sometimes I drink a very small glass of wine as well.
We don't have weed retailers in New Hampshire yet, but people can go over the border to Massachusetts to buy it. I don't drive anymore so I rely on home delivery for most things.

[Mitch must have gotten a visit from Diageo's lobbyist(s). Alcohol sales have suffered from the tariff fairy.]

(20,674 posts)I've had my share of "unfiltered" THC.
Delta 9 THC (for ME) is SORT OF like indulging in UNFILTERED THC, then you listen to music or watch a movie and eat some enchiladas and then you are just MELLOW on the DOWN SLOPE.
You're not "HIGH." You're MELLOW. And Republicans, led by Mitch, are trying to squeak that one by.
And WHATEVER we'd like to say about Rand Paul, he's said he'd block the "OPEN THE GOV'T" bill if they tried to slip that through.

I've had very positive results from using these legal gummies.

(20,674 posts)...that's a pretty simple and direct connection to make in terms of "WHY IS MCCONNELL DOING THIS." And I wanted to see if it was obvious by virtue of my post.

(16,447 posts)During WWII, the U.S. government encouraged farmers to grow hemp to meet wartime demand for fiber, particularly for making rope for the Navy. A 1942 government film called "Hemp for Victory" promoted this, and the Marihuana Tax Act of 1937 was temporarily lifted to allow for this production.

(114,130 posts)They're the ones who ran him and they've kept him in power year after year.
He sees cannabis as a threat to his owners and they're only too happy to reinforce his position. They're all terrified people will switch from tobacco, which fucks them up, to cannabis, which fucks them up in a good way. It's dumb, nicotine is massively addictive and tobacco smokers are unlikely to switch drugs, just add them to the nicotine.
Why they're attacking hemp is anyone's guess, but all Democrats have to do is insert "in sychoactive quantities" to poison pill this idiocy to death.

(22,775 posts)As far as I know this ban is targeting the unregulated and easily accessible hemp items such as Delta-8 sold in gas stations and the like, and IIRC, kratom.along with them even though it's not a hemp product.

(20,674 posts)...I purchase Delta 9 Gummies from several online sources. They have all sent out email alerts regarding this. What they're saying isn't what you're saying. No disrespect intended.

(22,775 posts)These synthetic cannabinoids, including delta-8, delta-10, THC-O, and others, are being sold in gas stations, convenience stores and online retailers across the country, frequently in packaging purposefully designed to appeal to children.
