200,000 Little Free Libraries are converting to free food pantries.

Ahead of the 1st shutdown of US food aid to hungry Americans in 60 years, some of the 200,000 Little Free Library locations are converting into food pantries. Thanks @littlefreelibrary.bsky.social

I hope this ends really quickly, I have no idea how, but I like the way people are responding.

Apparently it's going fast, even before the SNAP announcement. I believe people have been doing this for a while now, going by what the woman in the video said.

I find I have some extra money this month, so I'm going to order some things today and deliver it to a couple of places next week. I've been doing a little stocking up myself, out of fear my SS will be cut or ended, but I only have so much room and we're doing okay. Others are not food secure, and I remember what it was like when I was a kid and we had little to eat.

Do what you can with what you have, where you are. Every little thing counts, it all adds up.

I've seen a couple of these in the past plus community fridge (which is no longer active). The problem is that people are seemingly donating crap they won't eat themselves. Give a jar of peanut butter. Trader Joe's has natural peanut butter for under $3. Protein bars. Pasta sauce and pasta.
