I'm happy to see this. Hakeem Jeffries is going to be Speaker of the House. Jeffries is respected and has the backing of the Democratic House Caucus. Attempting to primary him would not be successful and would do nothing except aid Republicans in their ridiculous attacks on him.

(2,499 posts)Both AOC and Mamdani have also told him it's a bad idea.
If you want to hold onto hope that Chi will disregard all of this and primary Jeffries anyway, go ahead, but I'm almost certain that he won't.

(2,499 posts)Chi is nearly certain to not primary Hakeem Jeffries. Again, he's not expected to do it without the DSA backing.

City Councilman Chi Osse is all but certainly giving up his challenge of Brooklyn Congressman Hakeem Jeffries in next years congressional elections after members of New York Citys Democratic Socialists of America chapter voted against offering Osse the groups endorsement on Saturday.
The vote which had 52% of members voting against an endorsement, 46% in favor and 2% abstaining is a relief for Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, a DSA member who directly urged the group to not endorse Osse.
Late Saturday night, after the vote came in, Osse signaled to the Daily News hes likely not going to launch a 2026 primary run against Jeffries, the powerful U.S. House Democratic leader.
I have no intention of running this race without the support of NYC-DSA, of which I am proud to be a member, Osse, whose Council district spans Crown Heights and Bedstuy, said in a text message.

(705 posts)Such a primary would be a waste of time and resources. It only serves to divide Democrats and suppress the vote.
With luck there will be no bitter and petty "Leave it Blank" campaign against him... but that remains to be seen. Punishing Democrats and suppressing the vote and turnout seems to be a popular tactic in some circles for whom it's all about purity and playing the spoiler card, rather than about smart strategies.

In this case, helping Republicans by attacking Democrats is life and death important. Try to be famous by doing something else, or keep dreams of utopian revolution to nap time.
