The damage Trump has done to America is deep.

157 Canadians died in Afghanistan fighting along side the Americans. Many more were physically and mentally damaged. We did not send America a bill, it's what you do for your allies. You honor the treaty you signed.

I don't believe this trust is over (I just saw the below making the rounds on facebook) it is damaged, but not irreparable. There are good and honorable Americans. I know this. I met a whole bunch of them on Democratic Underground.

You cannot make plans based on fickle, ignorant, anti-democracy voters.

harshly with the criminal behavior perpetuated by the present admin., and expand the court; stupid and or greedy m'fers will install
another (MAGA, or "center right" stalking horse bastard) by whatever re-packaging in 2032. I'm now disabused of my wishful thinking
regarding the wisdom of the average American voter and that's a good thing. I'm 62 and with luck I'll see some positive durable change before I croak - but probably not. That our so-called guardrails and balance of power (lol) were so fragile makes me feel like even worse shit is waiting down the road. I try to be optimistic, but honestly, I'm telling my kids they need to get whatever portable skills and language acquisition they are able and get the hell out of Dodge. While I'm not religious, I do believe that the universe doesn't reward stupid societies - and often it's quite the opposite.

Kill the filibuster and expand the court, neutralizing the MAGA majority.

That’s the easy part; the hard part is electing a Dem majority in the senate that is willing to kill the filibuster- current Dem front runner in Maine primary is pro-filibuster.

Moments of crisis reveal the character of a nation, and when the U.S. has needed help, Canada has answered the call, again and again.

When U.S. airspace shut down on September 11, 2001, Canada launched Operation Yellow Ribbon, opening its airports, homes, and hearts to 33,000 stranded Americans. Gander, Newfoundland, a town of just 10,000 people, welcomed thousands of passengers, providing food, shelter, and comfort in one of history’s most remarkable acts of spontaneous goodwill. There was no hesitation, only humanity. They even made an award-winning musical about it, “Come From Away.”

When Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans in 2005, Canada was the first country to send disaster relief under Operation Unison. Military ships sailed south, over 1,000 personnel deployed, and medical teams worked alongside U.S. responders. As Americans faced the aftermath of one of their worst natural disasters, Canada didn’t ask, What's in it for us? They simply showed up.

I have friends in Europe, and they shake their heads in sadness at the mess the United States is in. Many Americans don't understand that countries have agency, and that many of them are ready to (and have been) make(ing) their own arrangements because they can't base their long-term security and economic planning on how people vote in the 'Blue Wall' states.
