Lawrence O'Donnell is right on with this bit of FACT. Marco Rubio and Republicans have been salivating for 65 years of invading and taking over Cuba. Cuba is the dream. Venezuela is the rehearsal.Lovie777

(7,545 posts)Would invading Cuba be a larger, more complex endeavor? Something seems off

He also tore a new one to Lindsey Graham and Marco Rubio in regards to their being "pets" to Trump.

(3,636 posts)...but I'm not sure I agree with him this time.
This would be like saying the 1989 military intervention in Panama to arrest Manuel Noriega was a warm-up for the Gulf War. They were entirely different operations requiring very different plans. (Not saying I agreed with either of them.)
Cuba and Venezuela aren't really comparable. Cuba can put up a pretty good defense, and it wouldn't be in-and-out for US forces. And its leadership isn't nearly as unpopular at home as Maduro. The orange hairball that walks as a man does may not get this, but the military surely does.

(25,456 posts)I mean, if we steal the oil, which we are. Then they stop producing oil. Without oil, the economy collapses. The military and guerrilla forces engage in a regional conflict which may or not may spill over to other nations. The illegal drug trade becomes a primary industry and much like in Afghanistan becomes essentially legal and nessessary part of the economy.
Could democratic forces win out, maybe. But also it becomes Libya which is sort of not so good.
