Best thing I've seen today

This morning as I flipped between stations covering the Davos trainwreck, I paused briefly on CNN because Katlin Collins was interviewing Gavin Newsom live. He was fine, and it was about what you would expect. But then she interviewed Andy Beshear. He was also live. My God.

First of all, he is definitely running for President (as is Newsom). But if I expected namby, pamby both siderism from him, I was dead wrong. He tore trump's speech apart. He said he was embarrassed by him. And best of all, he said it all calmly, and in language a third grader could understand. I was very impressed by his messaging and think he has the ability to reach everyday voters. He did not mince words and he was much more clear than Newsom about why this situation is so dangerous.

I've always liked Breshear, but like you, I worried he might be too namby-pamby. We need a fighter (like Gavin) who can also appeal to a wider audience. I'm going to have to try and find the interview you are referring to.

Because he was so good, I expect most of the media to ignore it. Impressive that he was there in Devos and calling trump out in real time. I think that interview showed why he is able to win in a red state.

I felt it a bit off-putting for Gavin Newsom to berate the European leaders. When our own government won't stand up against Trump, it came off as a bit hypocritical for Gavin Newsom to say that. I understand that the question was specific to European leaders, but I still felt the answer came off the wrong way.

I like the way Breshear answered. He didn't "bash" Gavin for his comments, which was smart. "I don't think that is what's needed right now". Good way to answer.

9. Expect to see more of Beshear as the year progresses

He’s got some catching up to do with Newsom and Chris Murphy re: media visibility, so it’s good to hear he got some air time.

I expect as 2026 turns into 2027, we will see Newsom drop in the name recognition 2028 polls as Murphy and Beshear will likely significantly improve their standing as voters get to know them.

Bright, good-looking and on the young-side, he's from the Midwest, and Kentucky borders the southern states. Not to take anything away from other potential candidates, but Governor Beshear knows his stuff, has experience as a 2-term Governor and he would be an excellent choice. Politically he seems to be middle-of-the-road, supporting most of the Democratic Party's policies and objectives.

In any case: I pledge to support our Party's candidate in 2028, no matter who may be chosen.

You've got a good point, as Bashear is a Democratic Governor in a red state. He must have some wide appeal.

... but I fear that his clever tweets – or whatever they're called today – may come to define him more narrowly that he and his team anticipated. He can't let sarcasm be his sole approach. Regardless of what the Orange Gargoyle might think, he ain't gonna be on the ballot in '28, so ol' Gavin had best modify his approach and study up on the field of possible opponents. Beshear sounds strong. Now, if he just stays clear of the herd of "consultants" who only ever seem to advise candidates to be bland and centrist, we just might get all *Buffalo Springfield on the Republicans.

26. I didn't like the way Newsom talked to the EUropeans. He could have been firm about the need to be firm with Trump

without being harsh. Beshear is kind but very firm. The Europeans are not in an easy spot right now. Save the harsh dialogue for the congressional republicans.

... and I take that to mean he won over some of the red voters. If not then the independents stepped up and made sure he got a 2nd term. Either way it looks good for him.

25. I don't even live in KY but "Governor Andy" got me through the pandemic

I watched his daily briefings religiously. He was direct, owned his decisions and when he knew something wasn’t going to be popular, spoke directly to that, getting out in front of critics and addressing them head on. I’m a huge fan.
