Trump holds 'late-night crisis' meeting with Kristi Noem as Minnesota operation unravels

I hope that trump fires Noem soon.

President Donald Trump held a "late-night crisis" meeting with Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem Monday as the situation on the ground in Minnesota amid federal immigration operations further devolved into chaos, The New York Times reported Tuesday.

President Donald Trump held a “late-night crisis” meeting with Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem Monday as the situation on the ground in Minnesota amid federal immigration operations further devolved into chaos, The New York Times reported Tuesday.

According to insiders who spoke with the Times on the condition of anonymity, the meeting was held at Noem’s request and came amid growing tension between federal immigration officers and Minnesotans in the wake of the killing of Alex Pretti on Saturday, which itself came just weeks after the ICE killing of Minnesota resident Renee Good.

The face of Trump’s mass deportations, Noem’s leadership of DHS has come under scrutiny among experts since Good's killing, with CNN data guru Harry Enten labeling her a “political disaster” as the situation on the ground in Minnesota grows more chaotic. A union that represents some federal immigration officers had gone as far as to call for Noem’s resignation on Monday.

The emergency meeting occurred the same day Trump revealed that he was sending his border czar, Tom Homan, to Minneapolis, which some critics saw as a slight to Noem and her leadership of DHS.

As part of the fallout over the Saturday shooting of 37-year-old Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, Donald Trump held a two-hour Monday night meeting with DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, her de facto chief of staff Corey Lewandowski and other key members of his administration.

According to MS NOW’s Jonathan Lemire, who was not invited was as notable as who participated.....

Invited to hear Noem and Lewandowski was White House chief of staff Susie Wiles, press secretary Karoline Leavitt and Steven Cheung, Trump’s communications director.

With the future direction of DHS being under discussion, Lemire raised an eyebrow that Stephen Miller, the architect of Trump’s immigration purge, was excluded.

Addressing the Trump ICE turmoil, Lemire told the “Morning Joe” panel, “We saw [Border Patrol Commander Gregory] Bovino being moved out — The Atlantic is reporting that even he's soon to retire. And then we had Secretary Noem and Corey Lewandowski in this meeting at the White House yesterday — Stephen Miller, not part of it, interestingly enough.”

“And we're told that their job is safe for now, but it's very clear there's at least a little bit of a de-escalation from Minnesota as the president and his team see poll numbers and realize this is not going well for them,” he added.

White House aide Stephen Miller was reportedly behind false claims that slain activist Alex Pretti was planning to "massacre" law enforcement when federal agents killed him in Minnesota on Saturday.

According to Axios, Miller ordered Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to make the claim about Pretti after he died.

"Everything I've done, I've done at the direction of the president and Stephen," Noem insisted in remarks that were reported by Axios.

One source told the publication that officers involved in the shooting "all shut up and got lawyers real quick, so there wasn't a lot of information."

Miller then directed DHS to assemble a statement, including information about Pretti's firearm.

"Stephen heard 'gun' and knew what the narrative would be: Pretti came to 'massacre' cops,"
one source pointed out.

Miller later asserted in a post on X that Pretti was an "assassin." The language was repeated by Noem and Border Patrol chief Greg Bovino.

The White House held a meeting with Noem on Monday, but Miller was not present.

"Noem has complained to others that she feels she's being hung out to dry over the episode and has made sure to emphasize she took direction from Miller and the president," Axios reported.
