Trump whistleblower Vindman challenging Moody for Florida Senate seat
Retired Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, who became a star witness in President Trump’s first impeachment, is challenging Sen. Ashley Moody (R-Fla.) for the Florida Senate, giving Democrats in the Sunshine State a serious challenger against the Republican incumbent.
“The last time you saw me was here,” Vindman said in a two-minute ad released Tuesday, referring to his appearance before Congress during Trump’s first impeachment, where he testified that the president had pressed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate former President Biden and his son, Hunter Biden.
Trump was acquitted in the Senate and has denied any wrongdoing, calling it a “perfect” call.
“Swearing an oath to tell the truth about a president who broke his,” Vindman said. “See, my family came here as refugees to escape tyranny, and I sure as hell wasn’t going to bow down to some wannabe tyrant.”
Vindman also attacked Moody, who was appointed to the Senate after Secretary of State Marco Rubio joined the Trump administration last year, suggesting Republicans “put Moody in the Senate to be a ‘yes’ vote for Trump and the billionaires.”
“She’s not Florida’s senator. She’s theirs,” he added.
