Am signed up to not get calls, my iPhone is suppose to catch some and I block every one I get but lately it’s horrible went from 2 a day to 10 or more a day. I know instantly because it’s the area code of my number from area where I lived 10 years ago so local calls are in different area code.

2. I agree that it is turning off donors and voters.

Just today, I got 3 texts from 3 different numbers asking for $ for a Florida politician. (I’m not in Florida). I’ve been replying stop/end, reporting it as spam, and deleting. I know political texts have more leeway than private business texts, but as I understand it, if you did not agree to receive the texts, they are not permitted unless they were individually written and sent to you, which none of these are.

My email server dutifully sends it to the spam folder. I clear that every morning. Rinse and repeat.

I donate as I choose.

To me, it's amazing how deeply into the weeds political groups will go to get your attention. The payback can't be all that good, I'd think.

Still, since the entire thing can be automated very easily, they think there's no reason not to hammer people over the head with donation requests. They're wrong, though. They put no individual effort into their text blasts, so they don't bother to check how the results are coming out. Any donations they generate are seen as positive. They don't see the number of potential donors they're pissing off. They should have a look.

5. I immediately block and respond STOP to all text solicitations for anything.

I still get a few new ones a week. I don't bother even reading them. Like you, I have a set of places and things I contribute to and keep track of calls to action from select sources. I sign nothing, give nothing, and do not respond in any way to anything that comes via text, even if it is from a candidate or org I already support. Blocking everything without even reading seems to have cut down on the overall number.

16. Yes, delete all SMS text messages and email unopened and unread

If you open them, even for the purpose of trying to reply STOP, it lets the sender (using a spoofed but real-looking telephone number) know that their message was read and thus, your number belongs to an actual person. Then they'll keep your number in a database of active numbers to either use again from a different telephone number or to sell to someone else.

My state party used to call or text me using spoofed numbers all the time (after I put the official party numbers on the "Do Not Call" list). After consistently not answering and not reading but just ignoring and deleting did their spam cease.

I think the constant begging backfires too, I donate less now than I used to.

I'm also sick of being asked to tip for seemingly normal transactions, WTF is up with that???
