The Ecuadorian government said a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent attempted to enter its consulate in Minneapolis, prompting it to send a formal protest note to US authorities so that acts of this nature are not repeated at any of Ecuadors consular offices in the United States.

Ecuador's foreign ministry said in a statement that an agent of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) had "tried to enter the premises of the consulate" at 11:00 local time (17:00 GMT) on Tuesday.
Under the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, consular premises are considered "inviolable".
According to the Convention, the authorities of the country where the consulate is located "shall not enter" the parts of the consulate used for work "except with the consent of the head of the consular post".
Ecuador said that its officials had not consented to ICE entering the consulate.

There once was an agent so bold
He tried doors that were clearly controlled.
With a sign overhead,
Consulate, plainly read,
Yet he barged like the rules were just old.
An Ecuador office stood firm,
Said, No entrythats not your concern.
By Viennas decree,
Hands off diplomatically,
But the memo, it seems, missed his turn.
A staffer cried, Sir, this wont fly
Dont touch me or else, came the reply.
Such finesse! Such restraint!
Like a barroom complaint,
Not the tone you expect from an ICE guy.
Theres a sign, big as day, on the wall,
Not exactly a subtle recall.
Yet an expert remarked,
With a sigh, slightly dark,
Guess readings not vital at all.
In Minnesota the moods wearing thin,
As the crackdowns keep doubling in.
When the badge brings alarm
Instead of calm,
You start wondering who let this in.
Outside church, guns waved close to a face,
With all the warm grace of disgrace.
Said the man, shaken still,
They had no training or skill
Just the bearing of criminals, base.
So how dim can one be, people ask,
And still qualify well for the task?
If this is the test,
Then congrats to the rest
The bars somewhere under the mask.
