1 MIN AGO: Canada Raises Potash Export Prices U.S. Farmers Face Historic Crisis

#TrumpTariffs Spark Fertilizer Shock That Could Raise Food Prices Nationwide
American farmers are facing growing financial pressure as fertilizer costs surge following new tariffs on Canadian imports. Potash, a key nutrient required for crop production, is now significantly more expensive, placing additional strain on farm operations already dealing with tight margins.
Because the United States relies heavily on Canada for potash and other fertilizers, tariffs have quickly translated into higher input costs. Industry experts warn these increases are being passed directly to farmers, with little ability to recover losses through crop pricing, potentially impacting food prices for consumers.

But that will not help consumers at all.

(2,462 posts)2. There is a product I am interested in buying. It is made in Europe.
The main retailer is in Germany. I don't think anybody stocks it in the US. The German site will ship it, but they prominently display this warning:
Additional import duties apply to this shipment due to U.S. Customs Regulations. These will be collected by the delivery service before or upon delivery.
And if you click for details, it adds this:
Q: Why am I required to pay taxes when ordering from (the retailer)?
A: We offer a U.S.-specific website for easier navigation, localized pricing, and voltage-specific warnings. However, we are a German-based company, and all orders are shipped from Germany. As such, import duties and taxes may apply according to your countrys regulations.
Q: Can you provide an import duty estimate to me?
A: Due to the recent changes in customs and importation rates, it is not possible for us to calculate the exact amount you will be required to pay. Exact details can be found in recent executive orders posted on the whitehouse.gov website or by contacting local customs authorities.

I wish Americans would see such clear information on American retail sites.

Surely his loyal, patriotic farmers and ranchers will do it for Trump.
