I saw the saddest thing yesterday afternoon.

Last edited Mon Feb 2, 2026, 11:17 PM - Edit history (1)

This is the place and the memorial where Alex Pretti was murdered, now covered in snow.

And across the street, at the donut shop where it started.

The Native community held a prayer and dance ceremony here and where Renée Good was killed. I was awed at the grace of the Native people who have suffered so much at the hands of invaders and still came out to honor these two White people - also killed by invaders. They danced and prayed for all of our relatives, all of humanity.

I wish this was a better photo and that I could post a video of the dancing and singing.

Here are better photos:

That said, there is a LOT of suffering going on right now, so if the cleansing ceremonies and memorials set up for the victims can afford even a bit of comfort, I'm all for it.

From Wikipedia:

"The American Indian Movement (AIM) is an American Indian grassroots movement which was founded in Minneapolis, Minnesota in July 1968, initially centered in urban areas in order to address systemic issues of poverty, discrimination, and police brutality against American Indians. AIM soon widened its focus from urban issues to many Indigenous Tribal issues that American Indian groups have faced due to settler colonialism in the Americas. These issues have included treaty rights, high rates of unemployment, the lack of American Indian subjects in education, and the preservation of Indigenous cultures."
