Scramble for the Senate: How Democrats hope to flip four seats to regain a majority in the 2026 midterms

The horse race analogy for United States Senate races, in this state, has produced a salient joke: Most Republican hopefuls couldn’t pass the urinalysis test.

Still, email blasts from our senior United States Senator Patty Murray inevitably warn of Republican expenditures and carry the moniker: “Fight back.”

The national struggle for U.S. Senate control gives Democrats a fighting chance, if they sweep the board. Seattle is in the game in the quest for donations. As California politician Jess Unruh once said, money is the mother’s milk of politics.

The Democrats’ best pickup prospects this year are Maine and North Carolina.
