Betcha a shitload of autocratic states are thinking about the Ukraine solution to defeat oppressive regimes?

(59,864 posts)Everyone is on the Ukraine's side. Putin is not very popular here, and you NEVER see posters glorifying him anywhere.
Zelenskyy, on the other hand is as popular on posters as Che Guevara was in the USA during the Reagan Era.

(31,705 posts)I've spent time. albeit, without the long term perspective that you have...mainly in China. Back in the 90s, I had the distinct pleasure of going to a bar in Zhongshan, Chia. A place, I had a financial stake in. Learned "Lying Dice" there and had people desperate to talk English and have a dialog. Blew my mind.
Many had never seen a gualo (white ghost) It was a most amazing time for me. They found arm hair fascinating. Guys and gals at the bar would reach out and touch my arm hairs,,,that was kinda weird.
I started a small import business in 2000, using the knowledge of world supply chains I had learned in the USA. They loved Bill Clinton and saw us as their great opportunity to fully embrace capitalism. Times have changed there, though.

I have sen plenty of Russia support in China and India. Maybe Turkey. Thats more difficult but some of my contacts do business with Russia so they naturally lean that way.

(31,705 posts)Long-terms friends there. Things are not well in China. Their infrastructure is crumbling because of CCCP corruption. Their real estate collapse is because of CCCP corruption.
I'm pretty sure my colleagues in China are paying attention to how Ukraine has stood up to Russia. I know no one who wants China to takeover Taiwan. Most like what Taiwan represents, Xi is on borrowed time, imho,
