I personally do not think some rich man should be able to buy an institution like this like a toy and then break it when he doesn’t want to play with it anymore. bsky.app/profile/benm...

1. Build huge subscriber base by telling them their $ supports democracy.
2. Don’t establish other revenue sources.
3. Rug-pull subscribers by pushing opinion side to the right.
4. Subscribers leave, revenue falls.
5. Enact crippling newsroom cuts.

I WAS a subscriber ...

There was a time they upheld a respectable bar for journalism

When they abandoned that, they lost me.

Sucking up to Trump may help his space businesses, but it is killing the Post. As a former subscriber, I regularly get emails offering a renewal for 50 cents per week for a year. Even that is too much. The excellent opinion writers have been replaced by right-wing nobodies. And last time I looked months ago, the troglodyte George Will was still there. The man hasn't had an interesting idea in decades.

I wish Bezos would sell it to investors who want to see it publish news, facts, and truth again. For sure, the current leadership would not do the type of reporting on Watergate now or publish anything like the Pentagon Papers.

And nothing at all on inequality of income, civil rights, Trumputin, or any of that what matters to democracy because what’s newly dead should stay dead, like justice, liberty, and the free press.
