'It should be abolished': Ann Arbor City Council expands city policy on non-cooperation with ICE
(The Michigan Daily) More than 100 community members gathered in Larcom City Hall Monday evening as the Ann Arbor City Council voted to reaffirm and expand the citys policy of non-cooperation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The council also moved forward with the Arbor South development, approving a significant brownfield financing plan for the project on the corner of Eisenhower Parkway and South State Street.

Many of the Ann Arbor residents present at the meeting showed up to support DC-3, some holding signs passed out by the Movement for Immigrant Rights Action, reading Ann Arbor: ICE-FREE ZONE.
Councilmember Cynthia Harrison, D-Ward 1, encouraged the council to preemptively enact legal protections for undocumented residents in case of an immigration crackdown in the city.
We do not want Ann Arbor to wait until harm becomes normalized or until fear becomes routine, Harrison said. As a city government, we have a responsibility to lead by example. That means using our authority carefully and lawfully, and refusing to facilitate actions that undermine constitutional protections. ......................(more)
