NJ-02: Cape May mayor (D) prepping congressional bid
Cape Mayor Mayor Zack Mullock may make a late entry into the Democratic primary for New Jerseys 2nd congressional district, where Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-Dennis) already faces a quartet of Democratic foes.
Mullock wrote in an email to Atlantic County Democratic committeemembers last week that hes beginning conversations in preparation of my public announcement as a 2nd district candidate, and hes also told Democrats in Cape May County that hes exploring a campaign. Mullock did not respond to a request for comment from the New Jersey Globe.
As Mayor, Ive worked in a nonpartisan environment focused on results: investing in public safety and infrastructure, strengthening community institutions, and delivering real outcomes without raising taxes for more than six years, Mullock said in his email to Atlantic County Democrats ahead of their March 8 convention.
A former Cape May councilman, Mullock was first elected to the mayors office in 2020, unseating incumbent Mayor Chuck Lear 61%-39% in a nonpartisan contest. He was re-elected uncontested in 2024; his city of around 2,800 is one of the few blue spots in an otherwise red county.
