NJ-12: Franklin Dems endorse hometown candidate Shanel Robinson
Somerset County Commissioner Shanel Robinson (D-Franklin) will have the support of her hometown Democratic municipal committee, the Franklin Township Democrats, as she seeks the Democratic nomination in New Jerseys 12th congressional district this year.
Before being elected to what was then called the Somerset County Board of Freeholders in 2018, Robinson spent four years on the Franklin Township Council, and the townships local Democrats said today that shes the best choice to succeed retiring Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-Ewing).
Franklin consistently has the largest Democratic turnout among all the 12th District towns and we proudly give our full support to Shanel, Franklin Democratic municipal chair Ron Jordan said in a statement. Her work has greatly improved life in Franklin and Somerset County as a whole. She brings a veterans discipline, a public servants heart, and a community advocates dedication to everything she does. We are confident she will bring her unmatched commitment to public service to Congress.
Franklin is indeed one of the 12th districts most politically potent towns, casting more votes than any other town in the district in the 2024 presidential election. Its also the largest town in Somerset County, where Robinson is counting on official party support at next months convention; shes by far the most prominent Somerset elected official in the 12th district race, though Raymond Heck, the mayor of Millstone (pop. 448), is also running.
