Just a quick update:

Last edited Sat Feb 7, 2026, 12:48 AM - Edit history (1)

I'm planning to fully retire this time next year and am turning over the trucking business, which consists of 2 trucks, 2 drivers, an agent and an accountant to my grand daughter who has learned the business inside and out and plans to pilot one of the trucks down the road, it's time for me to enjoy what time I have left on planet earth and let the next generation have at it.

Thank you DU for all the support you've shown in the past years and am looking forward to full retirement.
Love ya all.

On edit: Thank you each and everyone of you for the Hearts, this right here is why this is the only social website I belong to, all others are irrelevant to me.

It will take some getting used to, especially waking up in the same place every day. After a couple months you start noticing that the bed doesn't rumble on cold nights.

I'm really looking forward to being able to spend time with my family while knowing that the business is in good hands, she's really smart, and like I said, she knows the business inside and out and is a very good driver.

The best parts to look forward to.

It took me a while to get used to not having a refer right behind me, I stopped hauling food a couple years before I retired and I found I needed to park near a refer unit to sleep. It took a while to get used to not having the unit run through the cycles, I was so conditioned to waking up if it wasn't changing cycles regularly! Then, after I quit, I had to get used to the other parts, no engine running under the bed, waking up in the same place every day.

The things I really enjoyed were being able to wash my hands and face whenever I chose and a shower every day if I chose. I may have retired from the road in '92 but there are some things that are still with me from those days, like my 'road time' mode once I start driving somewhere... I automatically find myself on a mission and not willing to stop to check out points of interest along the way like I was on a tight schedule. It was a little bittersweet when I drove to northern New England from Montana last year, I hardly needed a map, I had seen all those roads and places before... and will probably never see again. Glad I did it, though.

Enjoy your last year behind the big wheel, you deserve all the enjoyment you can get, road warrior is a hard job no matter how cushy you have it.

I knew your granddaughter has made trips with you, pretty cool you're leaving the business in her capable hands. She learned from the best!

Enjoy your retirement next year!

maybe I can finally take that trip to Vietnam, provided that Trumpedo's State Dept. doesn't screw it up again.

But a question; are you going to be here all day, every day after that?

And please pass on my best wishes to your grand daughter - she'll do well and be a credit to you.

I'm going to indulge myself in my one true passion, restoring a classic car, I'm looking for either a '56 or '57 Chevy Nomad to restore back to factory specs.

I love that she is taking it all over! So cool.

You will love retirement, but get some hobbies.
