Spurious News: NASCAR hires Bad Bunny to sing the National Anthem at all 36 races!

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA (Spurious News Network) -- "This is a great day for our fans, for our sport, for music and indeed for America," said Jim France, Chief Executive Officer of the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR), as he announced a deal that makes Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny the official National Anthem singer for all 36 NASCAR Cup races in the 2026 season. "It's not every day that the musical star who headlined the Super Bowl Halftime Show agrees to perform at NASCAR races. Bad Bunny stepped up, and for that we're all grateful."

There was some initial hesitation at NASCAR over his hiring, since the National Anthem is in English and Bad Bunny normally sings in Spanish. "We came right out and asked him, 'can you sing in English?'" said Mr. France. "He rolled his eyes and said, 'no problem, man.' Then he ripped off a wonderful a cappella rendition of the National Anthem, followed that by singing all fifty state songs, and closed his set by singing 'I Am The Very Model of a Modern Major-General' from the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta The Pirates of Penzance. "We were amazed. First, he sings in English really well. Second, he knew not only "The Star-Spangled Banner" but all fifty state songs without looking at the words. And third, the Major General song Is nearly impossible for even a highly trained opera singer, and he nailed it."

Mr. France also explained that there was an ulterior motive in Bad Bunny's selection. "It's all about President Trump," said Mr. France. "At NASCAR we really love President Trump. Most of us voted for him three times. But oh, my God, we need to keep him the hell away from a speedway on race weekend. He threatened to have Martinsville Speedway closed and demolished because Famous Martinsville Hot Dogs are served without ketchup, even though in the over fifty years they've been sold at the speedway there's never been ketchup on them. He had four race marshals at Daytona thrown in federal prison for not letting him race the Daytona 500. There'd be no way they could have let him race the 500 - he doesn't have a NASCAR license, he couldn't pass a NASCAR physical and he can't get in a NASCAR race car because he won't fit through the window opening. He tried to have the (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) shut down the Toyota/SaveMart 300 because they serve wine there. Sonoma Raceway, where the race is held, is in California Wine Country. Of course they serve wine there. We needed to find a way to encourage President Trump to watch our races on television. When we learned how badly he hates Bad Bunny we just looked at each other and grinned."

Bad Bunny is excited about the new partnership. "I love NASCAR, I always have. I love the speed, the pageantry, the strategy, and like all Puerto Ricans I love cars. This is beyond anything I ever hoped for. I know I've only got this gig to keep President Trump away from races, but that's cool."
