at the moment. Even lightning and thunder today which is a real novelty for us. But mostly just pouring rain.

Not just "up a mountain and in canyons. A wall of flame 20 or 30 miles wide in one description. Whole towns were burnt of ash.

There's no place to run and hide; from survivor accounts, you dig a deep burrow or use your deep tornado shelter, leave wooden doors open, pack the opening with dirt, and hope the wall of flames pass over quickly so you can push the dirt out of the way and get air in as soon as possible.

The natives used to dig in deep at an angle and cover the hole with a wet buffalo hide.
