This is the headline from an article from yesterday from the Lebanese news site "Naharnet". Interesting to note is that Israel in fact did escalate right before the new attack on Iran. The IDF has been attacking and killing in Lebanon despite the supposed "ceasefire" and on a daily basis violates the air space over all of Lebanon. The Lebanese government and military have nearly completed the 1st phase of disarming Hezbollah south of the Litani River and they project the 2nd phase disarmament plan for the rest of Hezbollah will be completed in about 4 months.
Despite this progress there is no sign whatsoever of the right wing fanatics in charge in Israel of holding to their end of the ceasefire terms and withdrawing from the Lebanese territory they invaded and still hold. It is noteworthy that in January the Lebanese government provided details to the UN of 2,036 IDF violations of the ceasefire for just the period of October thru December of 2025. As is usual the UN will do nothing but speak words.

(8,941 posts)Middle East history I mentioned one Arab ruler in the '40's/'50's time frame who said (paraphrasing) That the problem in dealing with the West was that before the ink is dry on any agreement the West has already decided not to abide by it. This sort of bad faith coming from the West is well understood in the Middle East along with the immense power of the West to kill.
The media does it's propaganda thing when it shows radicals chanting "Death to America" and giving the implication that this is a widely held sentiment by average "Arabs" on the street toward average Americans. The radicals don't care about the average American one way or the other but do see them as something to be used to inflict terror by attacking them. It's the government that is their actual goal for harm and dead/terrorized civilians is their means to that end. Apart from the radicals I have found the average "Arab" knows and understands that the average American is just trying to go to work, raise kids, send kids to school and keep the bills paid and a roof over their head. They know very well the average American has no real control over the politics in the country except for elections and pretty much zero control once someone is elected.
Our media propagandizes and doesn't reflect this reality and that the deserved anger/mistrust we created over a more than 100 year period is directed at the big businesses and their governments/spy agencies/militaries that have screwed with them over and over again.
Similar in some ways as to how our media reports on a flood of refugees at the southern border for example and never goes into the US government history in Latin America of creating strong man dictators to brutalize the people and keep them under "control" so they will work the plantations etc. As the drug trade/human trafficking boomed the strong man dictators protected it and between the crime/ brutal repression and loss of hope it is no wonder people flee for their lives. But the US role in creating that mess and continuing to support that mess doesn't make the big network news etc. They aren't going to bite the hand that owns them.
The US is at the epicenter of many of the worlds problems. I get a little tired of people in this country not educating themselves. I have to work and put a roof over my head as well, but, the only way things will change is for US citizens to start stringing it all together.
