"Rand Pauls a freaking snake," Mullin declared. He then added, "I understand completely why his neighbor did what he did," referencing Paul's 2017 attack by a neighbor that left him seriously injured.
The DHS secretary is confirmed by the Senate Homeland Security Committee, which is chaired by Paul.
Trump administration officials were banking on Mullin coasting through confirmation on "senatorial courtesy," counting on his colleagues' goodwill to smooth the process. Mullin, a former MMA fighter with a track record of confrontational theatrics, including challenging Teamsters boss Sean O'Brien to a fight during a 2023 hearing and breaking hand sanitizer stations to fight off Jan. 6 rioters, seemed poised for an easy ride.
But Newell said that calculus got considerably more complicated, as Paul now holds the gavel over his confirmation hearing.

(22,811 posts)It's Mullin showing his true colors. Today, Rand Paul is "a freakin' snake," tomorrow, Mullin will "vent" on someone else. And they know it. They also know that if Trump picks him and they don't confirm him, they have to deal with HIS "wrath." A no-win, no matter how you slice it.

Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.), who has been known to buck his party, said he will vote to confirm Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) as Department of Homeland Security (DHS) secretary after President Trump announced Thursday he would select Mullin as Kristi Noems replacement.
As a member of the Homeland Security Committee + Ranking Member of Subcommittee on Border Security: Im not sure how many fellow Democrats will vote to support our colleague @SenMullin as the next DHS Secretary, but I am AYE, Fetterman said in a Thursday afternoon post on the social platform X.
In a Truth Social post, the president said Noem had done her job well and would be moving to the role of special envoy for an initiative for the Western Hemisphere called the Shield of the Americas.
I am pleased to announce that the Highly Respected United States Senator from the Great State of Oklahoma, Markwayne Mullin, will become the United States Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS), effective March 31, 2026, Trump wrote on Truth Social.

(66,991 posts)Like so many MAGAts, he always talks as though everyone in earshot obviously agrees with him, and if you contest anything he says, he gets quickly indignant: "Hey, don't make it all political. I'm just talking here."
But he said with clear admiration that the stroke "knocked some sense into Fetterman."
In return, I pointed out that Conservatism is caused by brain damage.
Hey, don't make it all political..."
