There's a weird thing on Quora right now - people asking about drafting Barron Trump to the military

Ignore that there has been no draft in the United States since the end of the Vietnam Conflict.

Dude, I was a sergeant for a long time and there's no way in hell I would EVER want Barron Trump in my unit. I'm not talking about whether he's entitled or a spoilt brat or anything like that. He might turn out to be a perfectly respectable soldier and even NCO material. But can you imagine having to deal with the logistics surrounding the president's kid on a daily basis? You have Secret Service officers piled up in the mess hall kitchen watching the battalion cooks to be sure they didn't slip anything into the food. (Not to worry, sir. We won't even put flavor in the food!) You'd have Secret Service agents surrounding every formation he was in. You'd have to do all sorts of risk assessments normal soldiers don't need to ensure he doesn't get injured working on his vehicle, live fire training would be a nightmare (we're going to have six firing orders today: Specialist Trump will go first before any other firers arrive at the range, then we'll have five orders for everyone else) and...you're at the ever-present risk of his fucking father showing up unannounced to yell at his kid.

No, no, he can stay home and try to overcome the liability of his last name.

Here on DU lately on the same topic. Someone suggested that he was too tall for some vehicles at 6'9". I can't see that protection would be any more difficult or necessary than for the ex-prince Andrew or Harry.

Preferable, with cartridge belts that cross in the front and form an "X" . . .

If there is a draft (doubtful) than Barron is fair game, although, he will probably claim too tall and Slovenian citizenship to keep from going to war.

Barron too tall?

David Robinson stands out as a notable example of a 7-foot NBA star who also served in the U.S. Navy. Robinson's height was a significant factor in his early career, as he had to serve two years in the Navy before he could play professionally.

Lots of people believe that everyone who was ever drafted into the military went straight into the infantry.

Only about twelve percent of the Army is infantry. There are seven combat arms branches - infantry, armor (includes cavalry), field artillery, air defense artillery, aviation, special forces and Corps of Engineers. Add in all of them and MAYBE a third of the Army has the primary purpose of shooting people. Everyone else falls into two classes: Combat Support (Chemical Corps, Military Intelligence Corps, Military Police Corps and Signal Corps) or Combat Service Support (Adjutant General, Finance, Ordnance, Quartermaster, Transportation, Logistics and Acquisition).

Assuming the Army drafted him, they would almost certainly put him in the Quartermaster Corps and have him coordinate materiel shipments to the war from an office in the Continental United States.

"But they don't have uniforms for six-foot-nine men!" They've got sheets of paper, and on those sheets of paper you can write "I hereby declare that Trump, Barron's duty uniform shall permanently consist of suits and ties."

Would be if he knew they had the election fixed with no room for error.

I served long before the spectrum got as big as it is now, and easily half of the people who worked for me would have been on it.
