The perfect target: Russia cultivated Trump as asset for 40 years ex-KGB spy
The KGB played the game as if they were immensely impressed by his personality, Yuri Shvets, a key source for a new book, tells the Guardian
by David Smith
The Guardian, January 29, 2021

This is an example where people were recruited when they were just students and then they rose to important positions; something like that was happening with Trump, Shvets said by phone on Monday from his home in Virginia.
Shvets, a KGB major, had a cover job as a correspondent in Washington for the Russian news agency Tass during the 1980s. He moved to the US permanently in 1993 and gained American citizenship. He works as a corporate security investigator and was a partner of Alexander Litvinenko, who was assassinated in London in 2006.
Unger describes how Trump first appeared on the Russians radar in 1977 when he married his first wife, Ivana Zelnickova, a Czech model. Trump became the target of a spying operation overseen by Czechoslovakias intelligence service in cooperation with the KGB.
Three years later Trump opened his first big property development, the Grand Hyatt New York hotel near Grand Central station. Trump bought 200 television sets for the hotel from Semyon Kislin, a Soviet émigré who co-owned Joy-Lud electronics on Fifth Avenue.
According to Shvets, Joy-Lud was controlled by the KGB and Kislin worked as a so-called spotter agent who identified Trump, a young businessman on the rise, as a potential asset. Kislin denies that he had a relationship with the KGB.

Trumps Russian Laundromat
How to use Trump Tower and other luxury high-rises to clean dirty money, run an international crime syndicate, and propel a failed real estate developer into the White House.
By CRAIG UNGER
The New Republic, July , 2017
Excerpt...
Trump made his first trip to Russia in 1987, only a few years before the collapse of the Soviet Union. Invited by Soviet Ambassador Yuri Dubinin, Trump was flown to Moscow and Leningradall expenses paidto talk business with high-ups in the Soviet command. In The Art of the Deal, Trump recounted the lunch meeting with Dubinin that led to the trip. One thing led to another, he wrote, and now Im talking about building a large luxury hotel, across the street from the Kremlin, in partnership with the Soviet government.
Over the years, Trump and his sons would try and fail five times to build a new Trump Tower in Moscow. But for Trump, what mattered most were the lucrative connections he had begun to make with the Kremlinand with the wealthy Russians who would buy so many of his properties in the years to come. Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross section of a lot of our assets, Donald Trump Jr. boasted at a real estate conference in 2008. We see a lot of money pouring in from Russia.
The money, illicit and otherwise, began to rain in earnest after the Soviet Union fell in 1991. President Boris Yeltsins shift to a market economy was so abrupt that cash-rich gangsters and corrupt government officials were able to privatize and loot state-held assets in oil, coal, minerals, and banking. Yeltsin himself, in fact, would later describe Russia as the biggest mafia state in the world. After Vladimir Putin succeeded Yeltsin as president, Russian intelligence effectively joined forces with the countrys mobsters and oligarchs, allowing them to operate freely as long as they strengthen Putins power and serve his personal financial interests. According to James Henry, a former chief economist at McKinsey & Company who consulted on the Panama Papers, some $1.3 trillion in illicit capital has poured out of Russia since the 1990s.
At the top of the sprawling criminal enterprise was Semion Mogilevich. Beginning in the early 1980s, according to the FBI, the short, squat Ukrainian was the key money-laundering contact for the Solntsevskaya Bratva, or Brotherhood, one of the richest criminal syndicates in the world. Before long, he was running a multibillion-dollar worldwide racket of his own. Mogilevich wasnt feared because he was the most violent gangster, but because he was reputedly the smartest. The FBI has credited the brainy don, who holds a degree in economics from Lviv University, with a staggering range of crimes. He ran drug trafficking and prostitution rings on an international scale; in one characteristic deal, he bought a bankrupt airline to ship heroin from Southeast Asia into Europe. He used a jewelry business in Moscow and Budapest as a front for art that Russian gangsters stole from museums, churches, and synagogues all over Europe. He has also been accused of selling some $20 million in stolen weapons, including ground-to-air missiles and armored troop carriers, to Iran. He uses this wealth and power to not only further his criminal enterprises, the FBI says, but to influence governments and their economies.
In Russia, Mogilevichs influence reportedly reaches all the way to the top. In 2005, Alexander Litvinenko, a Russian intelligence agent who defected to London, recorded an interview with investigators detailing his inside knowledge of the Kremlins ties to organized crime. Mogilevich, he said in broken English, have good relationship with Putin since 1994 or 1993. A year later Litvinenko was dead, apparently poisoned by agents of the Kremlin.

The Hidden History of Trump's First Trip to Moscow
In 1987, a young real estate developer traveled to the Soviet Union. The KGB almost certainly made the trip happen.
By LUKE HARDING
Politico, November 19, 2017
It was 1984 and General Vladimir Alexandrovich Kryuchkov had a problem. The general occupied one of the KGBs most exalted posts. He was head of the First Chief Directorate, the prestigious KGB arm responsible for gathering foreign intelligence.
Kryuchkov had begun his career with five years at the Soviet mission in Budapest under Ambassador Yuri Andropov. In 1967 Andropov became KGB chairman. Kryuchkov went to Moscow, took up a number of sensitive posts, and established a reputation as a devoted and hardworking officer. By 1984, Kryuchkovs directorate in Moscow was bigger than ever before12,000 officers, up from about 3,000 in the 1960s. His headquarters at Yasenevo, on the wooded southern outskirts of the city, was expanding: Workmen were busy constructing a 22-story annex and a new 11-story building.
In politics, change was in the air. Soon a new man would arrive in the Kremlin, Mikhail Gorbachev. Gorbachevs policy of detente with the Westa refreshing contrast to the global confrontation of previous general secretariesmeant the directorates work abroad was more important than ever.
Snipski...
The most revealing section concerned kompromat. The document asked for: Compromising information about subject, including illegal acts in financial and commercial affairs, intrigues, speculation, bribes, graft and exploitation of his position to enrich himself. Plus any other information that would compromise the subject before the countrys authorities and the general public. Naturally the KGB could exploit this by threatening disclosure.
Finally, his attitude towards women is also of interest. The document wanted to know: Is he in the habit of having affairs with women on the side?
When did the KGB open a file on Donald Trump? We dont know, but Eastern Bloc security service records suggest this may have been as early as 1977. That was the year when Trump married Ivana Zelnickova, a twenty-eight-year-old model from Czechoslovakia. Zelnickova was a citizen of a communist country. She was therefore of interest both to the Czech intelligence service, the StB, and to the FBI and CIA.

The National Rifle Association acted as a "foreign asset" for Russia in the period leading up to the 2016 election, according to a new investigation unveiled Friday by Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore.
Drawing on contemporaneous emails and private interviews, an 18-month probe by the Senate Finance Committee's Democratic staff found that the NRA underwrote political access for Russian nationals Maria Butina and Alexander Torshin more than previously known even though the two had declared their ties to the Kremlin.
Snip
The report indicates that top NRA officials were aware of Butina's and Torshin's links with the Kremlin even as they sought to work more closely together under the banner of gun rights.
In an email later circulated to two senior NRA staff members, Butina wrote that a purpose of the 2015 Moscow trip was that "many powerful figures in the Kremlin are counting on Torshin to prove his American connections" by showing he could bring prominent NRA officials to Russia.
At another point, Butina suggested to participants on the 2015 NRA trip to Russia that she might be able to set up a meeting between them and President Vladimir Putin, referring to him as "Russia's highest leader."

THEN, he got a bunch of uber rich Russian oligarchs to make donations to the Russian NRA, which of course, given that they were a "branch" of the NRA, they sent tens of millions to the NRA headquarters here in the U.S. which was distributed to Trump, Republican Senators, Republican House members, candidates across the nation for those offices as well as Republican Governor's elections/re-election campaigns..........
Our beloved Main Stream Media, owned/operated by Uber Rich Republicans and Republican Corporations barely reported about any of that, misdirecting all news towards the russian spy/slut who was ONLY here to oversee what the NRA did with the money....
And of course, the 2010 decision by the Supreme Court that gave us "Citizens United" helped tremendously with not only that, but countless amounts of money making its way from U.S. Corporations to Republican Political Candidates......

How Russian Money Helped Save Trumps Business
After his financial disasters two decades ago, no U.S. bank would touch him.
Then foreign money began flowing in.
by Mike Herschel
DECEMBER 21, 2018, 1:31 PM
In the fall of 1992, after he cut a deal with U.S. banks to work off nearly a billion dollars in personal debt, Donald Trump put on a big gala for himself in Atlantic City to announce his comeback. Party guests were given sticks with a picture of Trumps face glued to them so they could be photographed posing as the famous real-estate mogul. As the theme music from the movie Rocky filled the room, an emcee shouted, Lets hear it for the king! and Trump, wearing red boxing gloves and a robe, burst through a paper screen. One of his casino executives announced that his boss had returned as a winner, according to Trump biographer Michael DAntonio.
But it was mainly an act, DAntonio told Foreign Policy. In truth Trump was all but finished as a major real-estate developer, in the eyes of many in the business, and thats because the U.S. banking industry was pretty much finished with him. By the early 1990s he had burned through his portion of his father Freds fortune with a series of reckless business decisions. Two of his businesses had declared bankruptcy, the Trump Taj Mahal Casino in Atlantic City and the Plaza Hotel in New York, and the money pit that was the Trump Shuttle went out of business in 1992. Trump companies would ultimately declare Chapter 11 bankruptcy two more times. When would-be borrowers repeatedly file for protection from their creditors, they become poison to most major lenders and, according to financial experts interviewed for this story, such was Trumps reputation in the U.S. financial industry at that juncture.
For the rest of the 90s a chastened Trump launched little in the way of major new business ventures (with a few exceptions, such as the Trump World Tower across from the United Nations, which began construction in 1999 and was financed by two German lenders, Deutsche Bank and Bayerische Hypo- und Vereinsbank). He took about 10 years off, and really sort of licked his wounds and tried to recover, DAntonio said. As late as 2003, Trump was in such desperate financial trouble that at a meeting with his siblings following his fathers death he pressed them to hurriedly sell his fathers estate off, against the late Fred Trumps wishes, the New York Times reported in an investigation of Trump family finances in October. And his businesses kept failing: In 2004, Trump Hotels and Casino Resorts filed for bankruptcy with $1.8 billion dollars of debt.
Snip
Trumps former longtime architect, Alan Lapidus, echoed this view in an interview with FP this month. Lapidus said that based on what he knew from the internal workings of the organization, in the aftermath of Trumps earlier financial troubles he could not get anybody in the United States to lend him anything. It was all coming out of Russia. His involvement with Russia was deeper than hes acknowledged.
Snip
According to Trumps former real-estate partner and other sources who are familiar with the internal workings of the Trump Organization, his post-90s revival may have really begun in the early 2000s with the Bayrock Group, which rented offices two floors down from Trumps in Trump Tower. Bayrock was run by two investors who would help to change Trumps trajectory: Tevfik Arif, a Kazakhstan-born former Soviet official who drew on seemingly bottomless sources of money from the former Soviet republic; and Felix Sater, a Russian-born businessman who had pleaded guilty in the 1990s to a huge stock-fraud scheme involving the Russian mafia.

Trumps ties to the Russian mafia go back 3 decades
Journalist Craig Unger talks Russia, Trump, and one of the greatest intelligence operations in history.
by Sean Illing
Vox, Januar 12, 2019
On November 9, 2016, just a few minutes after Donald Trump was elected president of the United States, a man named Vyacheslav Nikonov approached a microphone in the Russian State Duma (their equivalent of the US House of Representatives) and made a very unusual statement.
Dear friends, respected colleagues! Nikonov said. Three minutes ago, Hillary Clinton admitted her defeat in US presidential elections, and a second ago Trump started his speech as an elected president of the United States of America, and I congratulate you on this.
Nikonov is a leader in the pro-Putin United Russia Party and, incidentally, the grandson of Vyacheslav Molotov after whom the Molotov cocktail was named. His announcement that day was a clear signal that Trumps victory was, in fact, a victory for Putins Russia.
Longtime journalist Craig Unger opens his new book, House of Trump, House of Putin, with this anecdote. The book is an impressive attempt to gather up all the evidence we have of Trumps numerous connections to the Russian mafia and government and lay it all out in a clear, comprehensive narrative.
The book claims to unpack an untold story, but its not entirely clear how much of it is new. One of the hardest things to accept about the Trump-Russia saga is how transparent it is. So much of the evidence is hiding in plain sight, and somehow that has made it harder to accept.
Snipski...
Craig Unger: Yes, absolutely. But lets go back in time, because I think all of this began as a money-laundering operation with the Russian mafia. Its well known that Trump likes doing business with gangsters, in part because they pay top dollar and loan money when traditional banks wont, so it was a win-win for both sides.
The key point I want to get across in the book is that the Russian mafia is different than the American mafia, and I think a lot of Americans dont understand this. In Russia, the mafia is essentially a state actor. When I interviewed Gen. Oleg Kalugin, who is a former head of counterintelligence in the KGB and had been Vladimir Putins boss at one point, I asked him about the mafia. He said, Oh, its part of the KGB. Its part of the Russian government.
And thats essential to the whole premise of the book. Trump was working with the Russian mafia for more than 30 years. He was profiting from them. They rescued him. They bailed him out. They took him from being $4 billion in debt to becoming a multibillionaire again, and they fueled his political ambitions, starting more than 30 years ago. This means Trump was in bed with the Kremlin as well, whether he knew it or not.

The back story:
The Strange Ties between Semion Mogilevich and Vladimir Putin
by Roman Kupchinsky
Eurasia Daily Monitor, Volume: 6 Issue: 57; March 25, 2009
Excerpt...
The questions surrounding the Putin-Mogilevich relationship if indeed there is one are not simply theoretical; the answers touch on the nature of power in the Kremlin; how it functions and which players serve its purposes. Part of the answer can be found in the Kuchma-Derkach dialogue held in Kuchmas office on February 8, 2000. According to a recording of the conversation made by a member of Kuchmas security detail, Mykola Melnychenko:
Kuchma: "Have you found Mogilevich?"
Derkach: "I found him."
Kuchma: "So, are you two working now?"
Derkach: "Were working. We have another meeting tomorrow. He arrives incognito.
Later in the discussion Derkach revealed a few details about Mogilevich.
Derkach: "Hes on good terms with Putin. He and Putin have been in contact since Putin was still in Leningrad."
Kuchma: "I hope we wont have any problems because of this."
Derkach: "They have their own affairs" (The transcript appears in the forthcoming book by J.V. Koshiw, The Politics of Kuchma the Melnychenko Recordings August 1999 to September 2000).
A second key to the puzzle lies in the alleged relationship between Firtash and Mogilevich in the Eural Trans Gas and RosUkrEnergo, companies involved in the strategically important transit of natural gas from Central Asia to Ukraine which worked closely with Gazprom, the Russian state-owned gas company apparently controlled by Putin.

To be fair, Tartaglione denied making the marks on Epsteins neck when the presidents friend was found unresponsive in his cell the first time. Barrs DoJ was surprised to hear the news and moved Tartaglione to another cell.
Perhaps this under-reported story is why many today think Epstein tried to kill himself.
https://yonkerstimes.com/dirty-westchester-ex-cop-is-epsteins-cell-mate/
The assignment of a violent psychopath as a cell-mate makes one wonder if Barr really had Epsteins safety in mind. Otherwise, somebodies high up in the MAGANAZIGOP might have wanted to shut Epstein up permanently before there had been a trial, let alone a conviction.
Recently, Tartaglione told Rupert Murdochs New York Post that Epstein confided in him that the Feds offered Epstein a deal in exchange for dirt on Donnie Dipshit. Tartaglione added that Epstein told the Feds he barely knew Trump, that they didnt like each other, but Dipshit was nice to females, and that he knew nothing about Trumps politics. Right-o.
https://nypost.com/2025/01/18/us-news/feds-offered-jeffrey-epstein-a-deal-for-dirt-on-trump-ex-cellmate/
So, no mystery why Mr. Barr would think the former officer would make an ideal final cell mate for pedo poster boy Jeffrey Epstein. Seldom mentioned, of course, is how Barr's father, Donald Barr, recognized the young drop-out's potential as a teacher for the exclusive college-prep academy, The Dalton School of Manhattan.

The Ties That Bind Jeffrey Epstein, William Barr & Donald Trump
Todd Neikirk
Hill Reporter, May 19, 2019
During Attorney General, William Barrs confirmation hearing, he was mostly peppered with questions about how he would handle the Mueller Report. Senator Ben Sasses (R-NE) questioning, however, diverged from the pack. Sasse asked Barr about the lenient sentence given out to billionaire pedophile, Jeffrey Epstein. The future Attorney General told Sasse that he would look into the matter.
This, however, was not the first connection between Barr and his family and the disgraced pedophile. In 1973, Barrs father Donald, the headmaster at Manhattans Dalton School, hired Epstein as a calculus and physics teacher.
While hiring Epstein, a noted mathematics genius, was not strange on its face, the hire was unusual for a number of reasons. Epstein had not earned a college degree as he dropped out of New Yorks prestigious Cooper Union. The other odd circumstance was that the new teacher was only 20 years of age.
Apparently, the hire was a successful one. The New Yorker wrote in a 2003 profile on Epstein, he was something of a Robin WilliamsinDead Poets Society type of figure, wowing his high-school classes with passionate mathematical riffs. Epsteins mathematical skills caught the eye of Bear Stearns chairman, Alan Ace Greenberg, whose son attended the Dalton School. Greenberg hired Epstein as an options trader and the former teacher was able to amass a fortune.

Small world. And very, very bad.
Jeffrey Epstein Bragged Bill Barr was in Charge, Not Trump
The pedophile told Ehud Barak he had direct knowledge that Barr was in charge in DC, according to a new book that also claims Steve Bannon gave Epstein advice on his PR strategy.
Lachlan Cartwright
The Daily Beast, October 15, 2021
A controversial new book from the journalist Michael Wolff claims that the pedophile Jeffrey Epstein bragged that Bill Barr was the man in charge during Trumps time in office and that the president lets someone else be in charge, until other people realize that someone, other than him, is in charge. When that happens, youre no longer in charge.
The tome, Too Famous: The Rich, the Powerful, the Wishful, the Notorious and the Damned, also claims that Steve Bannon and former Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak tried to help Epstein rehabilitate his image, even suggesting that he try to get favorable coverage on Rachel Maddow or 60 Minutes.
According to Wolffwho reportedly tried to buy New York Magazine with Epstein and disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey WeinsteinBarak asked Epstein the million-dollar question of who was in charge at the White House. What I want to know from you all-knowing people is: Who is in charge, who is, [Barak] said, putting on an American accent over his own often impenetrable Israeli one, calling the shots? This was a resumption of the reliable conversation around Epstein: the ludicrousness and vagaries of Donald Trumponce among Epsteins closest friends. Here is the question every government is asking. Trump is obviously not in charge because he is
Wolff claims that Epstein interrupted the former politico and called Trumphis former playboy party pala moron, then confided, At the moment, Bill Barr is in charge. The pedophile financier continued: Its Donalds pattern...he lets someone else be in charge, until other people realize that someone, other than him, is in charge. When that happens, youre no longer in charge.
Barak allegedly pressed, But let me ask you, why do you think this Barr took this job, knowing all this?
The motivation was simple: money, Epstein replied. Barr believes hell get a big payday out of this ... If he keeps Donald in office, manages to hold the Justice Department together, and help the Republican Party survive Donald, he thinks this is worth big money to him. I speak from direct knowledge. Extremely direct. Trust me.

Whos Enabling Putins Enablers?
BY SAM PIZZIGATI
CounterPunch, March 29, 2022
Where would Vladimir Putin be without the Russian oligarchy? Without Russias oligarchs, political leaders of the Western world have concluded, Putin would be tottering. Western leaders have made squeezing Russias richest a central piece of their strategy to end Putins Ukraine cross-border assault.
These same Western leaders, unfortunately, have failed to take seriously what ought to be an equally pressing question: Where would Russias oligarchs be without the West, without the Wall Streeters, wealth managers, and assorted other high-finance riff-raff paid millions, as Institute for Policy Studies analyst Chuck Collins puts it, to help billionaires sequester trillions?
Western leaders have essentially been ignoring this question almost ever since the old Soviet Union collapsed. And now were paying the price. Those Ukraine sanctions against Russias oligarchs? They come with a huge loophole. The Western worlds opaque web of tax havens and anonymous corporations is essentially rendering much of those sanctions ineffective.
Snippe
The U.S. wealth defense industry, we need to remember, hasnt just been helping Russian oligarchs hide their fortunes. Americas money-handlers have for years been helping them pile up ever grander fortunes. Theyve steered the illicit funds of Russian oligarchs into U.S. real estate, investment funds, and even factories, says Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Jake Bernstein, a senior reporter on the 2016 bombshell Panama Papers tax avoidance exposé.
The Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich has used a network of banks, law firms and advisers in multiple countries, the New York Times just reported, to invest billions in American hedge funds. Along the way, he tapped the expertise and contacts of U.S. high-finance giants ranging from Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley to BlackRock and the Carlyle Group.

As pee-resident, Trump represented the most successful spy operation of all time: Putins insertion of an active agent into the Oval Office.

Unretouched photo in which then-President Donald Trump sends former KGB colonel Vladimir Putin a conspiratorial wink.
Trump hid his calls with Putin. Now, Biden has access to them.
What was said between the two leaders is a great mystery, one that advisers to the current president say is imperative to find out.
By NATASHA BERTRAND and DANIEL LIPPMAN
Politico, 02/09/2021
Few Trump-era mysteries are as intriguing as what the 45th president said to Vladimir Putin in at least a dozen rambling, off-the-cuff calls and meetings over four years. Understanding what was said between the two could help illuminate whether Trump ever revealed sensitive information or struck any deals with the Kremlin leader that could take the new administration by surprise.
Now that President Joe Biden is in the White House, he can see for himself.
They dont need our approval to see those [records], a former Trump White House official said, referring to the new Biden national security team. Biden owns all the call materials. There is only one president at a time.
SNIP
It is a national security priority to find out what Trump said to Putin over his four years in office, said one former national security official who is close to the new president. Some things, like what happened in some face-to-face meetings where no American translator or note-taker was present, may never be fully known. But I would be very surprised if the new national security team were not trying to access the call records.
SNIP
Trump went to particularly great lengths to keep his in-person conversations with the Russian leader private, from confiscating his interpreters notes to forgoing American translators and notetakers altogether in their meetings. That desire for secrecy has extended even past his time in office. One former Trump official argued last week that records of Trumps conversations with Putin, which often lasted an hour or more, should not be made available to his successor.
SOURCE: https://www.politico.com/news/2021/02/09/biden-can-access-trump-putin-calls-468100
In his capacity as pee-resident, Trump represented an existential threat to national security as an agent working to advance the interests of Vladimir Putin. Therefore, in lieu of an investigation by the press or Congress, it would advance the national interest for the Department of Justice to investigate the troubling relationship between Boss Putin and Toad Trump. (Otherwise, without involvement by DoJ, Every Good American would want to perform a Citizen's Arrest the next time the guy is in town.)
Trumps Top Targets in the Russia Probe Are Experts in Organized Crime
Some of President Trumps favorite targets in the Russia probe have spent their careers in the Justice Department and the FBI investigating organized crime and money laundering, particularly as they pertain to Russia.
NATASHA BERTRAND
The Atlantic, AUG 30, 2018
Bruce Ohr. Lisa Page. Andrew Weissmann. Andrew McCabe. President Donald Trump has relentlessly attacked these FBI and Justice Department officials as dishonest Democrats engaged in a partisan witch hunt led by the special counsel determined to tie his campaign to Russia. But Trumps attacks have also served to highlight another thread among these officials and others who have investigated his campaign: their extensive experience in probing money laundering and organized crime, particularly as they pertain to Russia.
snip...
Trumps latest obsession is with Bruce Ohr, a career Justice Department official who spent years investigating Russian organized crime and corruptionan expertise he shared with another Trump target named Christopher Steele, the former British intelligence operative who provided valuable intelligence on Russia to the State Department and the FBIs Eurasian Organized Crime Task Force prior to authoring the Trump-Russia dossier in 2016. Ohr and Steele met in 2007, according to The New York Times, and stayed in touch as a result of their shared interests and mutual respect. Trump has tweeted about Ohr nearly a dozen times this month alone, complaining about his relationship with Steele and Ohrs wifes past work for Fusion GPSthe opposition-research firm that hired Steele in 2016 to research Trumps Russia ties.

Trumps fixation with seeing Ohr ousted from the Justice Department could be perceived as yet another attempt to undermine the credibility of the people who have investigated him. It could also be interpreted as an attack on someone with deep knowledge of the shady characters Trump and his cohort have been linked to, including Semion Mogilevich, the Russian mob boss, and Oleg Deripaska, a Russian aluminum magnate close to Putin who did business with Trumps former campaign chairman Paul Manafort. (Incidentally, another Manafort associate, the Ukrainian billionaire Dmitry Firtash, admitted that he only managed to be in business because Mogilevich allowed him to be, according to a leaked 2008 State Department cable.) Ohr was involved in banning Deripaska from the U.S. in 2006, due to his alleged ties to organized crime and fear that he would try to launder money into American real estate. Nearly a decade later, Ohr and the FBI sought Deripaskas help in taking down overseas criminal syndicates.

The president has denied having any business ties to Russia, and his dream of building a Trump Tower Moscow never materialized. But his links to Russian oligarchs and mobsters from the former Soviet Union have been documented: Millions of dollars from the former Soviet Union flowed into Trumps developments and casinos throughout the 1990s, as the journalist Craig Unger has chronicled, as oligarchs looked for a place to hide their money in the West. The Trump Taj Mahal casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, was once known as a hot spot for Brooklyn mobsters associated with the Russian Mafia, and quickly became the favorite East Coast destination of the top Russian mob boss Vyacheslav Ivankov, according to the 2000 book Red Mafiya: How the Russian Mob Has Invaded America. It was also repeatedly cited by the Treasury Departments Financial Crimes Enforcement Network for having inadequate money-laundering controls.

So. How many Americans even know this story? Most all the people I have asked about it have no clue. And for that ignorance, I blame the Media Monopoly, AKA the mainstream press, comprised of broadcast news organizations and America's major newspapers and news magazines, such as they are.
Of course, there's more to the Trump-Putin Love Story. Trump actually invited the GRU into the Oval Office.

The photo of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and dip above was taken by TASS, the official Russian news agency. The US media were not informed about the 2017 visit. We learned about it because the Unhinged Moron himself spread the pic proudly on social media.
How many people do you know whove seen that picture or the one below, taken on an earlier date in the Oval Office? Again, very few.

I just fired the head of the FBI. He was crazy, a real nut job," Trump said, according to The Times. "I faced great pressure because of Russia. That's taken off.
"I'm not under investigation," he added.

The polls indicating the 2024 Presidential Election currently is a dead-heat demonstrates the power of propaganda and the corrupt nature of Americas profit-driven news media. Were it otherwise, most Americans would know Trump hosted Russias top spies and fired America's top counter-espionage agents specializing in catching Russian spies. Putting Trump on trial as a dirty rotten spy would change the narrative, as they say.
Agree with you 100-percent, ChicagoTeamster! That's where the facts led. And that is where Nuremberg 2.0 criminal investigations should begin: And Trump should be facing a federal trial answering charges of espionage on behalf of Russia.
