South Korea has a multi-layered air defense system, with both medium and short range missiles, but they rely on the USA for both Patriot and THAAD systems as part of their overall defense.

South Korea doesn’t have any Patriot or THAAD of its own.

the country and their military is much more capable than the Norks.

Their Air Force is much better equipped and trained than the N. Korean pilots, their most modern fighter is the MIG-29, while still capable, is no match for the S. Korean's inventory of fighters, plus S. Korea has their own home grown aircraft which are more modern and capable, especially in the hands of the better trained S. Korean pilots.
