Global Food Crisis Incoming

With the conflict passing two weeks, it becomes increasingly likely that still-operational #fertilizer plants will need to curtail output. Fertilizer traffic through the Strait of Hormuz is paralysed and prices for #urea, #ammonia, #sulphur and #phosphates have surged.

Urea production in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh has been curtailed. With loaded vessels stranded, import requirements rising and export oriented production down, the urea market is facing a severe dislocation.

Middle East producers face a security and shipping crisis, and are considering drastic measures to ensure access to market, including trucking tonnes vast distances to the Red Sea. The crisis is unprecedented and the immediate future remains highly uncertain.
