(69,772 posts)I always post the text of the skeet if I can and then the address of the skeet.

(39,460 posts)Drag or copy your image to which ever site you choose. Then right click on the image and copy its address.

Now OHHH NOOOOH, it's a Google Format webp image that DU won't display when uploaded to a host.

As you can see, when I send the webp image to a host, DU only shows the link!
SOOOOOO
On a mac, open the image with Preview.app and right click or control click --- EXPORT (to jpeg)
Now you can upload THE NEW JPEG to a host and get the link to post it on DU.
THIS IS NUTS.
Wastes a bunch of my time, since I post lots and lots of images (and do quite a bit of image editing.)
Wish it were easier. You might forward this thread to EarlG, or post it in ComputerHelp, which the admins monitor regularly.
---- NOTE ----
If you just right click or control click on the Bluesky image to "copy image link" you get this
https://cdn.bsky.app/img/feed_thumbnail/plain/did:plc:zve5hj4hhsmntjpuqkg2pbvy/bafkreiafrxrgp6e6si3szcvsneg6iwoqpuqddxzuzxjbbwccpgq23jfmna
Which is insanely un-useful, and DU will not render it (as you can see from the above)
Blame Jack Dorsey, inventor of Bluesky (and Twitter) for that user-hostile decision.
---- NOTE 2 -----
Taking a screenshot should give you a jpeg or png image that you can send to a host, saving steps.
But it depends on how your system does screenshots.
I did that to prepare the image above.

(10,788 posts)In this case, I just want a link to the Dinosaur 🦖 image
It's super easy on Twitter (Currently know as X), but brutally hard on BlueSky.

(25,206 posts)Preferably your system or a screenshot app will let you select only what you want.
I included some context as an explainer of the image's context.
I've thought of ways to make all these things easier, but they require hosting the scrounged image, and that involves money and risk of DMCA complaints etc.

(10,788 posts)Which then requires me to create an account with a host that allows me to store the image & use the associated image link.
I'm kind of tired of creating accounts for everything in my life.

(25,206 posts)I have zero image hosting accounts anywhere.
I use https://imgbb.com and https://postimages.org
You can drag and drop your image (saved screenshot) there.
On phones, etc, click upload and it will let you choose from your camera or picture roll.
With postimages, I ask for direct link. It just works. Copy the link and paste it in your post.
I do these many times a day.
With imgbb, I ask for HTML full linked and use only what's between src=(quote) and (quote) alt. It's a PITA but I can save that link for future use on my system. I seriously reuse some graphics over and over, and having that direct link saves me time.
HTH
By the way, a DU quirk. I had to substitute (quote) for double quotes. Otherwise, I got a 403 error code.
Life is weird.

I use PostImages but YMMV. Copy the image link, go to your photo upload spot, select 'Upload by URL' and paste in your link. I know this works for PostImages.

(13,423 posts)Edit and save to my photos.
Then go to pixi.mg to adapt to jpeg for posting to DU. Copy the jpeg and post to DU.
Pixi.mg is free, requires no registration or membership. The size is limited 2mb.
