(215 posts)Otherwise, we remain prisoners.
Otherwise, our entire system remains in shackles.
Otherwise, entrenched minority rule, a demonic SCOTUS, a complicit Congress remain in control.

(6,807 posts)No one thing will ensure victory or success. There is no magical panache, it's a long, slow steady game of using every tool available, when and where most effective, protests being merely one of many other tools.
I can certainly understand the protest's increasing notice and size are getting a lot of people concerned.

There is no pending "Revolution" in America. We're too comfortable, and will remain so with gas at $6/gallon. I paid $5.60 on Sunday.

(40,637 posts)"either you people march in frog costumes"
OR
"you people break shit and burn down buildings"
That's insulting. The next evolution for the current protesting can be non-violent DISRUPTION. A No Kings march on a Monday instead of a weekend.

(4,986 posts)Parades make people feel good and they entertain the ruling class but they dont inconvenience them in any way let alone scare them.
The only thing that gets their attention is fucking with their money. Hitting them where it hurts.
And that requires a hell of a lot more than dancing in costumes and carrying signs.
Were just not ready for real protests. Were not ready for revolution. People have to be desperate in order to spring the kind of resistance we need to overcome fascism. Americans arent willing to sacrifice their Netflix subscription let alone ration food to sustain the kind of strikes and civil disobedience we need.
Its unfortunate because we should be doing this while there is food and supplies to be had. But no one really wants to do it. They just want want to complain.
Eventually that time will come.

(151,249 posts)Trump sent in his little brown shirt army to the Twin Cities. The people here came out and said No! Thanks, but No.
Before long Noem was out. Bovino was out. Homen came in and shut the nonsense down and the ICE cosplay dudes left town.
Why? Because people went into the streets and said NO! Get out! And they got out!
Public action brings change. It works. It's not an instant fix, but things get fixed, one way or another.
No Kings day protests also work.
Stop trying to discourage people from public protesting. Just stop!

(9,059 posts)We're no where near the point where violence is an acceptable option. Right now we have the high ground, and what you are asking will not only galvanize Trump's supporters, but will be rejected by millions of people who are supporting the Democrats. Essentially we'll lose the high moral ground.
Radicalizing the anti-trump movement is exactly what the republicans want. It gives them the excuse to brand us as dangerous, anti-american radicals, and allows them to justify harsh countermeasures before the election.
What you are calling for will destroy the election process and leave violent revolution as the only means of effecting change.
I reject that.
We need to show the whole country that the Constitution and the rule of law still matter.
I can say with all certainty, that if we lose the high ground, we lose the elections. It's that simple.
Right now we're gaining in polls all over the country, even in deep red states. This is how people show their strength in a Constitutional Democratic Republic.
Fat, lazy, cowards? That simple isn't true.

(14,267 posts)First of all we break the narrative that we are violent and 'radical leftists' which is important.
Secondly, we show ourselves to each other and our communities, and to the larger nation and world. The support that results helps fortify our resolve.
--We are getting more coverage than when we started. This is not unhelpful. Representatives see us--as do advertisers who spend money on networks.
--Children see us and ask questions. One of the best things I saw at Saturday's No Kings protest here in Hilo (over 3,000) was a car that went by with very stoic adults in the front. No honking support, no smiles, waves, shakas, or anything affirmative. In fact they pulled into the inside lane to create more distance. The kid in the backseat by the window slipped his arm out with a thumbs up. He gets it.
--Already, several GOP in Congress have said they will not run again. They see the writing on the wall.
--We are getting mostly positive feedback from others. Passerbys are honking and signaling support, but even better we are entering the community consciousness. We are hard to ignore and conversations are happening. People who supported tRump are no longer feeling popular or cool. There have been NO rallies to support him roadside for some time now. The last one only had a few people and all the flags and signs are gone.
--By staying plugged in and supporting each other the movement is growing--not shrinking.
-We are reclaiming American symbols. We have veterans with us wearing veteran caps and we have flags everywhere with us. Many signs use patriot language and refer to our U.S. Constitution. Someone always shows up as our Lady of Liberty.
--We are reclaiming our space without guns and tough hyper-masculine cosplay.
--We are there in our diversity--all together.
