This coming Tuesday is primary day in Nebraska. While we're supporting two great candidates in the state, one of
them needs a final surge of support in order to win his primary.

John Cavanaugh is running for Nebraska's open seat in the second congressional district. For
years, moderate Republican Don Bacon has represented the seat, despite the
district’s slight Democratic lean. For the last several cycles, no challenger
has succeeded in beating Representative Bacon. However, now that he is
retiring, this is the best shot at getting a MONEY Agenda champion into
Congress.

We foresee it being one of the most competitive elections in November, and one that Republicans are going to spend
big to hold onto. This seat could very well end up deciding the House majority
for next year. But with the right nominee, and in this national environment,
Democrats can and need to win seats like this. The best chance at winning districts like this, though,
comes from candidates like John who are running on strong economic priorities
that prioritize working people first, not their donors.

John is a strong supporter of the principles in the MONEY Agenda—taxing the rich, raising the minimum wage, and
getting corporate PAC money out of politics. He was born and raised in
Nebraska, and has served in the Nebraska legislature since 2021. He has a
record of fighting for our issues on the state level, and we believe he'll
continue to be the kind of economic champion we need in Congress.

Unfortunately, as is all too common in politics today, his main opponent in the primary is receiving a ton of
outside dark money spending.1 The Cavanaugh campaign sent a press
release out yesterday, condemning yet another dark money group's involvement in
the race.2 New polling shows the race is significantly closer
heading into the final week of the primary. Cavanaugh entered the race with a
lead due to his name recognition and state-level experience, but the
overwhelming amount of outside money spent against him has pushed this race
closer to a tie.

And the primary is in just FIVE days, next Tuesday, May 12th.

That means the time to act is NOW for a final push if we want a strong champion like John Cavanaugh to become
the Democratic nominee. John can win in November, and he will continue to be a fantastic advocate for our issues in Washington DC. That's why we’re supporting him, and that’s why we’re asking for your help today.
