Back in 2022 I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. I had a supracervical hysterectomy and chemo and was in remission. On March 23rd this year I hemorrhaged and after a multi day hospital stay they realized the cancer is back. I cannot work during treatment.
I'm home this weekend. Monday I'm back at Hope Lodge until Wednesday when they no longer have room. I'm on the wait list for a room for one night or else I'll have to get a motel. I go back to Hope Lodge for a few days and then have three days with no room until there is an opening. The rest is covered until June 4. If I didn't have treatment on those same days I would just go back home but travel time and gas makes it prohibitive.
I have a Gofundme link listed. Costs go towards paying my insurance, living expenses, medical and other bills and occasionally lodging when Hope Lodge is full. I can break down all expenses if requested.

The rest: radiation Monday through Friday, chemo with cisplatin every Wednesday. I have a urologist appointment this Tuesday. My left kidney was basically destroyed last time I had cancer and my tumor is growing behind my bladder. There is talk of a supracervical catheter. The tumor is also putting pressure on my cervix and I do feel it. It's uncomfortable but not horrible- feels like last trimester pregnancy at times, lol. I sleep often, appetite is hit and miss.
I'll keep posting every few weeks on updates but feel free to also pm me. I've been here since 2004 and have made so many friends over the decades!

(65,945 posts)I have been helped many times so felt good to give back. I watched my dad go through cancer and helping people going through that same battle means a lot.

(2,571 posts)My wife has had STAGE FOUR.....for over10 years......There is so much being done to fight cancer...., and every time it rears its ugly little head, the oncologists come up with something new to clobber it.......I am sure that will not go on forever, but they are making progress. She has an excellent outlook, and a strong will.......

(2,571 posts)The both of us think this continual roller coaster will at some point drain us both......It is hard to watch the one you love go through this, but at the same time, we are so BLESSED to have had these many extra years. Many aren't so lucky.
But it has amazed us at the Oncologist's arsenal they have. One thing quits working, and they immediately revert to another something that starts working.......
Hang in there, all of us here at DU are in hopes of the best for you........

(4,253 posts)Sending love and hugs as well. The outlook these days is much better than it used to be, and I pray they can help you.
Is the Hope Lodge you are at in Saint Louis, Kansas City, or another location?

(5,458 posts)Keep your spirits up. A professional colleague of mine has ovarian cancer. She was diagnosed prior to 2012 (when we started working together) and was in remission until 2020 when she relapsed.
We both retired (I have cancer, too). She was treated and is back in remission, moved to Florida, and is doing very well on the golf courses to this day! May it go as wellno, even betterfor you!

(31,949 posts)WHY WHY WHY WHY should you have to go through all of that shifting and effort and EXPENSE to simply have a place to sleep while you are trying to get your cancer treated?
WHY??? Its SO VERY WRONG.
Its just wrong.
So sorry you are going through this.
